I personally think that you can learn a kata from a video but you need an instructor to brush it up for you.

I don't really use the instructional video. I prefer the student/teacher face to face approach.

If I were you, I would get help by your Sensei/Sempei.

I believe they can be a good reference to suppliment your training, but nothing replaces hands on with an instructor and interaction with others in the dojo.

I think they can be a good supplement to your regular dojo training .my sensie has done a few videos and they are exeptionaly good .

Quality obviously is the main factor.

never give up !

Like I said, use your Sensei/Sempei for help, don't just stand there watching a video!!

Kata videos, in particular, can be very helpful. Typically, you would use the video as a 'memory aid'. I am not suggesting that you can 'learn' Kata from a video. However, it's clear that you could practise your kata at home if you had a video to help you 'remember the sequence'.

The general advice of this thread is good though: "Work with your instructor and allow videos to supplement your training."
