cathal
Indeed, Heian and Pinan seem to be interchangeable. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
mindsedgeblade
Hmm, they're the same. Perhaps my school has some shotokan influence as well? The best a man can hope foris, over the course of his lifetime,to change for the better.
cathal
I'm sure there are some little things, more subtler movements that would be uniquely yours. The diagram doesn't pass along the true feel of the techniques. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
mindsedgeblade
Looking at it again, I'm sure we do a few things different. The 4th move in our Cho-dan is a back stance, mid level fore-arm block. And between the back stances at the end, we have a move with the hands high over the shoulder. It's interesting to see the diagrams, since it can be difficult to tell the difference between some peoples' stances. Thanks for posting them. Why are the diagrams in German? I can read some of the legend, but it's kind of fuzzy.Kieran-Lilith, what other kata do you use? The best a man can hope foris, over the course of his lifetime,to change for the better. Kieran-Lilith
I'm not actually overly sure on most what kind of katas we do....ummm....I'm only an orange belt, but I do know some things. I know we use the Pinan series, and the Nihachi (sp?) series, then we have ichikyu, nikyu and sankyu....I have to go check the list at my dojo, because I'm afraid I don't know much else. I know there's more kata than that though. You know, it's really hard to look at a list that's been taken down. We're changing dojos. Hallelujah! (Maybe us normal sized teenagers won't keep tripping over the midgets, now.) mindsedgeblade
We use Kiban 1-5, and Pyong-an Cho-dan through Oh-dan, and Gente. There may be a few more I don't know of.
