I am just curious as to the opinions out there.

What have you heard, what have you been told by your instructor, or other sources?

In my area it would mostly be weaponless combat.

Absolutely. Part of my intent was to prompt thoughts of how well a given persons training program addresses the potential threats.

Really you should be ready for anything to happen on the street.

Very true.

However, in some areas of the world certain scenario's are more common than others.

For example, I live in an area where the primary weapon/attack method used would be either weaponless or with a knife or blade. However, in the nearest big city to me gun crime is having a massive increase, so a "street encounter" there would be more likely to involve a gun or guns than a similar scenaio in the place where I live would do.

I guess the extension of the question would be: How many dojos research this type of information for their location, and cater the provided training to reflect the nature of the methods of attack which are more common to the geographic area?

In my area I think the average assaulter carries a knife.

Weaponless combat is more of a spur-of-the-moment thing I think. The people that seek out fights are usually armed, just in case...
