I just watched 2 tapes with Wally Jay on scjj, does anyone here study it? What is your insight, because it looks pretty good for self defense, compact , little energy and power used, has some good distractions and weak points of the body. I would like to check out a school here in Sacramento if anyone knows of one.

I have heard good things about Wally Jay. I have seen a couple of his books that a buddy of mine has and it looked like he had some good tricks in his bag.

Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them

Ordering his book soon...

I believe Wally Jay trained under Professor Okazaki, along with my sensei's sensei.

I have trained with Professor Jay at his seminars for the past several years, going back to 1996, and even at his age of 80, he is unbelievable....the system is very very effective.

In the ancient Olympics it wasn’t uncommon for both the winner and loser in pancrease(sp?) to have broken fingers at the end of a match.

Yes finger/thumb locks are useful but are unlikely to win a fight for you against a determined foe, best not to base your self-defense strategy on them.

A minute of experience on the street is worth a year of training in the dojo.

If you can’t sprawl and brawl, you can’t street fight.

While I wouldn't base your combat ability on scjj, those finger and small joint locks come in handy in a pinch.
