Ehm.. What is a potluck?

Sorry if I am asking a stupid question, but I am not familiar with that expression.

This tradition to keep black belts on for 24 hours is pretty common.

Anyone else?

A potluck meal is when everyone brings a different dish of food. Then they fill their plates from it buffet-style.

Na, it's the first I heard of it. Maybe I'll do that when I hit BB (if I ever do ... it's seems like it's taking for ever  ).

Tradition seems lacking in my dojo as well. But to each his own, I guess.

My school has a fall and spring picnic. Everybody plays football or soccer or whatever, and our master usually runs the grill.

Since we're at college, there's always a demonstration at the beginning of the semester. Lol- not too many of the people that go to the demo actually stay around though.

Colored belt promotions are done when everyone is lined up a the end of class. Go to the front, bow to each BB, recieve the belt and certificate, and shake the master's hand.

is, over the course of his lifetime,

to change for the better.

Ahh, I've been to a couple of those :)

Thanks a lot.

Oh, and when we graduate in my Aikido dojo we usually go out for beers with the sempai and sensei. Great fun :)
