Kempohands Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 I don't know enough about either style to get specific, but that dosen't matter. My answer is gonna be the same...it depends on the practicioner's work ethic and training habits. "To win a fight without fighting, that is the true goal of a martial artist." -Grandmaster Nick Cerio
SaiFightsMS Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 Please read the guidelines for the comparitive styles area. The idea is not to discuss what style is better than another but to discuss differences/similarities/merits of one style as compared to another. If the discussion is not kept to those lines the thread will be closed.
Pogo Posted March 14, 2005 Author Posted March 14, 2005 Okl et me refrase the question GoJu is the hard soft style using angles also GoJu uses a 50 50 hands and feet tkd uses something like 70% feet 30% hands which style is moore effective in close range combat. and also just fighting in general? Kara Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 I'm not sure, but i can say i like using hands more (karate) because it's good for self defense and confedence in portecting myself on the streets. If you kick more offen (tkd) it's ok too, it's fun to train like that, it's fun to training anyway...in my opinion. KBear"lick your wounds, anxious for the next ones"
dingyuan Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Goju Ryu is not better than TKD but certainly much more well rounded than TKD.
Master Jules Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Its the same question again and again...."whats better ?" As said before....it depends on the practicioner and his/her training ethic......comparatively speaking, Goju Ryu is more well rounded than TKD. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Grenadier Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) You might be comparing apples and oranges, but if you can be a bit more specific, maybe we can compare winesaps to granny smiths instead of macintoshes to mandarins... Tae Kwon Do comes in several varieties / flavors. Some dojangs place a premium on "sport" Tae Kwon Do, such as Olympic-style competitions, while others emphasize a more traditional approach, and in the end, might not differ too much from an Okinawan or Japanese style of Karate. While it's true, that the "AVERAGE" Tae Kwon Do system will place more emphasis on kicking than the "AVERAGE" Karate system will, you really can't get a full answer, until you visit the school of interest and see for yourself. Take a visit to each dojo / dojang, and see what the classes are about. Edited March 18, 2005 by Grenadier
Pogo Posted March 18, 2005 Author Posted March 18, 2005 lets say when I am at a tournament and I am about to fight I tend to look at the persons patches and decide what my strategy will be to gett the quickest point if I see tkd patch I can basicaly count on a double side kick or front kick depending on the individuals size they would try to keep me back with theire legs. So when the judges say go I would move in jam up there legs and use my hands but a person with lets say kung-fu style or wado ryu I would have to be either faster with my leggs or quick with my hands it becomes harder to determin what they are going to do.
