username9
Well I have tried to do it for years on end - then I gave up doing it cos I had damaged my shoulder and trying a nip up wasn't helping - then I started trying again recently and so very nearly got it - but have stopped trying again now - I will sulk for a while - then try do it again! I used to think that it was my weight that was the problem - I am not fat (not world's most toned guy - but not fat). But I do weigh heavy - but then I saw guys like The Rock doing it perfectly and even the Big Show did it (by using a ring rope to help) and I figured - if those guys can do it - I can do it! I'm still trying - Guess what I'll be trying at training tonight!! I still reckon it is easier for lighter guys though!
taiji fajin
Hmmm, I didn't even consider weight. I use to wrestle in high school, and the lightness never really went away. I don't look thin, yet I'm 6' and top the scale out at 155 after a very large meal. While I'm sure its possible for a heavier person to learn, it probably is harder. Eventually, its all about feeling that moment of weightlessness, though. Good luck trying it (though don't do anything that even quasi risks your shoulder on it, not worth it) Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! I must be handsome when I unleash my rage. UsagiYojimbo
I think I may have a disadvantage as well. I'm a girlie; I'm slender, but I'm pretty heavy up top, if you know what I mean. I'm just wondering if that throws off my center of gravity and makes it harder. Unfortunately, I've got a hurty knee right now, and I decided that I should lay off for a couple of days; that sort of stress won't help it. Yesterday's attempts were thoroughly amusing; I wish I'd had a videocamera.
cathal
It can be funny, LOL. But I imagine that you can do it with some practice, regardless of the weight up top. It will just be that your mucles will learn a different way of balancing themselves as you perform the task. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
battousai16
actually, if anything, i'd think being, um... top heavy would help, since it's extra weight to pull you forward when you get to your feet. not much, but it's more than i have. don't bailing, though, i've never seen anyone get it on the first try. or the second. or the third. i don't know if you ever jumped on the bed on your back by pumping your legs as a wee one (i recently discovered that i seem to be the only child in the world who did this), but it's the same motion. just be patient. UsagiYojimbo
Oh yeah, I used to love to jump on the bed like that!
taiji fajin
Oddly enough, while females seem heavier on top, they're center of mass (com) is actually far more towards the hips than men (except in extreme cases). Guys com lies closer to their chest. This is why the old trick of "women are stronger than men" works, where the person attempting to lift a chair while bending far forward will be unable to lift it if they are a man (com is in the chest above the chair and is needed for a base of support) and will lift it easily if they are a woman (com is in the hips and the chair is not needed for their base of support). That's a horrid description of the "trick," but it would be very long to write out and I feel like being lazy. Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! I must be handsome when I unleash my rage. username9
I'm a girlie; I'm slender, but I'm pretty heavy up top, What r u doing tonight honey?! Hehe. But taiji fajin - you are 6ft tall and only 155 pounds - this is the thing - I am 5ft 11 and I weigh about 200 pounds!!!! Everyone is shocked when I tell them cos I don't look it - but I used to weight train a fair bit and am just generally heavy! Like I say - not particularly fat - just damn heavy! The wierd thing was as a kid I was so skinny and light! But I'm getting off the point now!
sk0t
I can kip up without using my hands, what you do is you push your head into the ground and use that as leverage, make sure you have a strong neck, because it can get really sore from the immediate strain you are putting on it. I am 6"1' and about 150 soak and wet. sk0t"I shall not be judged by what style I know, but how I apply that style againsts yours..."
