kyokushin_coe
I study kyokushin in memphis, tn. when i was a white belt black stripe, i came home from church early, and 2 guys were standing outside my fence. as i parked the car i noticed they walked off in a hurry. I went inside the fence and decided to walk around the house just to check things out. there was 2 more guys stealing bicycles out the yard. i walked up and asked them why were they in my yard. these guys were both teen agers, and much larger than i was. i never thought that they would try to attack me. one tried to circle behind me , the other pulled his arm back to throw a punch, i blocked the punch and punched him in the solar plexus, he went down limmediately. the other guy ran up from behind , i was able to side step his punch and hit him in the solar plexux also. the whole thing lasted only about 50 seconds. but the thing that amazed me was, i knew i could seriously hurt these guys but didnt want to i was calm throughout the whole ordeal, but became very nervous after it was over... now i am in no way a accomplished martial artist, i am now a blue belt in kyokushin . and i am 42 years old . would any other person reacted diffrently, if so please respond. brown belt kyokushinkia
Jbone1
YOu had to defend so you did. I'm a servant of Christ and I totally believe if the situation came forth he would not have you get beat down. G95champ
Turning the other cheek is a nice thing to do but at some point and not always in our control things may reach that time when you have to fight. Fighting is never the right thing to do. But like they say in the movie if you have to fight you better know how to. Nice Job. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
ravenzoom
I agree, sometimes you just need to defend yourself. You can't always talk your way out of a tough situation so defending ourself becomes a necessary choice. Furthermore, sometimes it happens so quickly that you just react instinctively, like it seems to be in your case. You did the right thing.
vertigo
would any other person reacted diffrently, if so please respond. I would have done the same. There is nothing wrong with defending yourself in the slightest; there is nothing I have run across in being a Christian that says we can't defend ourselves from attack. You hit them in the solar plexus, probably knocked their wind out, nothing more... if you had then gone on to kick them while they were down, it'd be a different story, but you did all that was necessary to defend yourself, nothing more, nothing less. You did the right thing "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." - T. S. Eliot

AnonymousOne
Turning the other cheek relates to verbal insults. Its an old Jewish saying. Some legalistic Christians are pacifists and claim you cant hit back, cant be in the Army etc. But is this Biblically sound? Deuteronomy 20:4 For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory. Pacifists are free loaders. While they stay at home enjoying life, going to Church, work etc, in other words enjoying freedom, others go to fight to give them that freedom and they pay no never no mind to the high price freedom costs. They spit on the graves of those that died for the very freedom they take and enjoy. They take the freedom - but wont pay the price to have that freedom. In other words they are freeloaders!! Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. "yoke of slavery" = made made laws superimposed over Gods laws. Training in martial arts is not a sin, its not demonic and legalistic Christians who try and judge you need to be quoted this verse: 1 Thessalonians 4:11 Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business... Quote it to them sometime 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Warriors are action takers and not action fakers. A. Orstrom
I have no problem with people being pacifists, but in order to be a true pacifist you have to be able to inflict harm and then choose not to. It is the choice that makes one a pacifist, not the lack of violence. The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence, but in the mastery of his passions.Alfred, Lord Tennyson
isshinryu5toforever
If Jesus didn't want Christians to be soldiers when he approached the soldier in the Bible he wouldn't haved told him to continue what he was doing, he would have told him to drop his arms and take up the life of a disciple. This just means that you must have a reason for your battles. According to Christ what you did was fine, according to St. Augustine you were in the wrong. I think I'm going to side with Christ. He who knows himself is enlightened.- Tao Te Ching"Move as swift as a wind, stay as silent as forest, attack as fierce as fire, undefeatable defense like a mountain."- Sun Tzu, the Art of War
Snakeeel
I consider myself a devout Christian and would have done exactly the same thing...probably much worse. Great job. Absolutely no reason for guilty feelings.
