Kamisama Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 I understand that it all takes time and skill and study. But which martial art has won more fights and tournaments in history with hardcore fighting? I just want to pick a good style so that I can take on multiple people at once that are attacking me with weaponary such as beer bottles, pipes, and a gun with it's barrel being pushed into the side of my temple. Rainy mondays feel like friday when you're smiling at me. I can feel the space between us collapsing our love is ever lasting... You're not alone. - Sanctus Real
Shorinryu Sensei Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 I understand that it all takes time and skill and study. ['quote] Exactly correct. Everybody will tell you that there is "no ultimate martial art", and that's true. There are fundamentally very good arts, and IMHO..some that aren't worth the gun powder to blow them back where they came from. But which martial art has won more fights and tournaments in history with hardcore fighting? OK, you're contradicting yourself here. Do you want a system that wins more tournaments...or can save your butt in a fight? They are not necessarily the same thing. It's bee ncovered pretty throughly in this forum before about tournament fighters that can't defend themselves on the street, and the same would be sure of many people that can kick some seriosu butts on the street, but can't score a point in a tournament. If what you're looking for is an art that is street and self-defense proven, I would recommend an Okinawan martial art. They aren't designed for tournaments normally (although some do) and are very realistic in their applications of techniques and training. Kamisama Posted March 8, 2005 Author Posted March 8, 2005 Is ninjitsu an Okinawan art or shotokan? P.S. yeah i'm going to lean more towards street fighting. Sure it's nice to look pretty with art. Art is subjective. Life and death isn't, unless you're a zombie or catatonic. If i were to go for an art form, i would want to be able to defend myself against an offensive opponent that is dangerous, but with style. Perhaps jumping on my hands and walking on both of my hands and then kicking the person and just staying on my hands while fighting. Or else a something where i'm fighting but yet i'm dancing. I'm more interested in being able to defend myself in a street fight with the situation listed above in the previous post. Rainy mondays feel like friday when you're smiling at me. Shorinryu Sensei Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Is ninjitsu an Okinawan art or shotokan? Ninjitsu is Japanese, and Shotokan was derived from Okinawan karate, but IMHO, is quite a bit different than Okinawan karate. If i were to go for an art form, i would want to be able to defend myself against an offensive opponent that is dangerous, but with style. Now I'm getting confused...are you looking for effective self-defense...or looking "cool"? I guess if you kick someone and hold your hand out with the pinky finger extended "just so"...that would be stylish. Perhaps jumping on my hands and walking on both of my hands and then kicking the person and just staying on my hands while fighting. Or else a something where i'm fighting but yet i'm dancing. vertigo Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Or else a something where i'm fighting but yet i'm dancing. Sorry, but I have a feeling "dancing" in a fight does nothing but hurt your fighting from a self-defense situation... In a fight, I'd be far more concerned with defending myself than looking good doing it... "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." - T. S. Eliot
AnonymousOne Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 What is the best combative martial art? You... only you... if you perform 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Warriors are action takers and not action fakers. If you are cruising, make time for losing
dingyuan Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 I bet we all have a different answer for this but to me it is Baji Quan.
Cmon Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Well im going to be bias, Jeet Kune do. Lol this is the only MA i really know much about, but i would say it is good. the Kali part of JKD helps for stick fighting "pipes" and defending against people with weapons. But isn't caoporia (spelling) a dancing MA?
Davison Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Kamiasma, it sounds to me that you want to learn the martial arts just so that it will help you with fighting people on the street. if thats the case, your barking up the wrong tree. Martial Arts isn't just about fighting,in fact, it's completly the opposite. I will continue to train in the martial arts for the rest of my life and if I don't ever get into another fight in the street for as long as I live, I'll be a happy man. There is so much more to it than just learning to fight. Unfortunatlly,it is somthing I cannot explain to you, you'll have to figure it out on your own. Everyone can hurt a human being, hurting someone is easy, the trick is to learn how to heal and to help one another. Hope this gives you some insight . Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them
AngryMatt Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Learn to fight so that if you must, you can fight and survive. Become a fighter so you know how to live in peace.
