I want to see if MArtists have had a lot of experience in fighting (as in scrapping/street fights/school fights) before starting their Martial Art. I myself have only really been in 1 fight and that was at school. I want to see whether most people have had a lot of fights or a small amount prior to their MA's training.

I have never been involved in a fight... so no fighting experience here!

It will be interesting to see whether people before starting MAs were "fighters".

I have been into alot of fights at school. And it was almost never my fault  .

But almost everyone of them was the kind of fights where you are friends again five mins after the fight. So I dont know if that will count. But I learned how to through a punch in the nose. However, now Im a peacemaker.

Peace!

I have never been in a fight, not before or since begining my martial arts training.

I used to fight alot, because some kids would talk trash behind me and my friends backs. When I confronted them, all hell would break loose.

There will always be the Jackie Chans and Jet Li's who will come along and dazzle us with their screen antics. But Bruce Lee was a seeker of knowledge, a true master of the fighting arts and philosophy.

I started MA at 7 so I dont recall too many fights before then, but because of unusual circumstances, I have been in several real fights.

I grew up in a pretty crappy city and have had my share of fights...but like most they were mostly quick, "kid" fights...a few shoves, lots of name calling, a punch/kick or two then wrestling around usually ending with the 1 on top shaking the other and making him say uncle. However, I have spent the last 10 years in law enforcement in the same crappy city, and have been in my fare share of street fights..and I can tell you that when you are in a "real" fight it really changes your training outlook. "Real" fights are super fast and really nasty, I trained in joint locks and stuff...which is great, but I have never used them in a 1 on 1 stand up fight...I have used them in to restrain/control someone, but I have never been able to use one against a guy that has attacked me. Usually it has always been "block 'em and clock 'em", and then follow up with some other technique(joint lock etc;)..My advice would be to work your close quater stuff...Never had an incident that was more than 3 feet away. And your focus under stress, when things happen they come fast and hard, keeping your head is the most important thing...that and not going overboard once the threat has been stopped. (easier said than done..trust me

Hope I did'nt go on too long...Just my mindless ramblings :brow:

A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve. It should not be used indiscrimately.

I got into two fights in grade school, and one in high school, but it was to defend someone else. My sister and my brother .... both of which couldn't fight at all. My dad taught me a few things from the army, so I had a better chance than them. So I basically backed them up and won (I still think I was very lucky all three times). I used just a punch all three times. I guess they (the attackers) didn't expect me to fight back.

My sister is pretty small from being sick when she was a baby, so I definitely had to jump in there. I'm youger, but bigger. And I didn't want someone my size to take advantage of her ... I just couldn't stand back and watch.

I did have one self defense situation after MA, but that's another thread LOL
