I'm not your best source of information as far as jujutsu goes, but basically jujutsu is about striking and grappling. Some schools concentrate on grappling, some concentrate on striking. Some do both in equal measures.

Basically I think that jujutsu uses more grappling than your most common arts like karate and kung-fu (being most stereotyphical here). One TKD practitioner's answer to my question about their self-defence tactics was basically this: "Well, it's sorta those jujutsu-like things we practice in self-defence seminars."

I can't comment the learning curve as I've never practiced jujutsu. Also bear in mind that all of above is afterall only dictionary information read on web/books. I hope that some jujutsuka has something way better to tell you.

It would depend on what kind of jujutsu you speak of. There are a lot of different systems out there, traditional jujutsu, brazilian jujitsu and other hybrids as well. Find out what the name of the system of jujutsu is and i'm sure everyone will be glad to give you some imput on the matter.

Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them

what type of JJ, traditional or Brazilian?

Both are similar to judo in alot of way but the two usually have diffrent focuses and training meathods so you would have to narrow it down a bit ot get a good answer.

ive done the same thing as you are planning to do. if you go for basic traditional ju jitsu then you are looking at a good parralel to judo

jujitsu is the art that judo, aikido, karate and many other of the mainstream arts (exept things related to kung fu) formed out of. you can expect kicking punching, grapling, throws, kicks all sorts of locks, strangles and chokes. some sensei may stray into the self defence and weapons. to get a better idea do some reasearch yourself and look for grading sylabus' and have a look at what they expect.

you may freely give up your life, but never lose your honour
