AnonymousOne Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 For a bigger person I would recommend Gojuryu or Gojukai Karate 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Warriors are action takers and not action fakers. If you are cruising, make time for losing
strangepair03 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 You could try Isshin-Ryu.....I like it A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve. It should not be used indiscrimately.Kyan Chotoku Sensei
A. Orstrom Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 You will probably hear this a million times, but here goes. IMHO the best thing you can do when deciding your art is to start by getting an overview. Find something that gives a brief introduction of the various arts and see which ones tickle your fancy (there are several good books out there, or you can browse the net). Then see what is available in your area, make a list of places that you would like to check out and make appointments. The more on your list, the bigger the chance that you will find the right one for you. Most places will let you train for free a couple of times, so by trying all of them you will get to experience both the feel of the style but also, and more importantly, the feel of the place. The environment in which you train is crucial, and probably the single most important thing when it comes to your learning. I don't personally believe that your build makes you more suitable to one MA or the other. The most important thing is what you think is fun/interesting. I hope this helps. isshinryu5toforever Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 lol strange pair, I wasn't sure if I should make a plug for our style. I do quite enjoy it though, or else I wouldn't have been doing it for going on 14 years now. One thing about height though, he mentioned that he has begun lifting weights. If he has, and he's heavier than 165 6' isn't tall enough in TKD to be considered tall. At that weight you run into a lot of guys who are 6'2" or taller. He who knows others is wise. Cmon Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Surelly height, weight should not be a problem for any martial art?
isshinryu5toforever Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 I'm just talking about competitive WTF. At low to intermediate levels height and weight don't matter as much. At higher levels if you are shorter and they are taller and bigger, not to mention actually quick, you may havce a few problem. He who knows others is wise.
