GhostlySykanRyu Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I personally subscribed and now read it monthly, it's a great source with a neutral stand, open to all types of MA related articles. Only things I don't like are the various ads for "getting your black belt in the mail for only $999"...but then again, they're a neutral source. They have several articles printed on their website, where you can also order some very good books: http://www.blackbeltmag.com To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.
Shorin Ryuu Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I put "never". Picking it up at the bookstore for an occasional laugh doesn't count... Martial Arts Blog:http://bujutsublogger.blogspot.com/
TangSooGuy Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I voted very rarely...and I mean very rarely...I've probably only purchased it 3 times I can think of, and usually then only because of oe worthwhie article surrounded by tons of crap. In general...not worth it, in my opinion.
AngelaG Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Nope. I occasionally buy Traditional Karate Magazine, or Martial Arts Illustrated but I really don't like Black Belt Magazine. Pacificshore Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 At one point I suscribed to it...then it just got bad, especially when they started advertising non-martial arts related stuff I just got a subscription to Buo International USA. A lil better than BB magazine Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
Chaz Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I hate that magazine...too many ads for one. "One of the lessons of history is that nothing is often a good thing to do and always a clever thing to say." - Will Durant
GhostlySykanRyu Posted March 1, 2005 Author Posted March 1, 2005 I do find some articles useless, but again: neutral view...they leave the reader to weed out the garbage. I was annoyed by their XMA article in particular, so I simply ignored it. I mostly enjoy the historical articles... I'll have to take a look at MA Illustrated...any good? Jussi Häkkinen Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 BB was good in the 70's and 80's (having read the old issues), now it's mostly an ad-magazine with some critiqueless articles. I'll stick to more serious publications, such as Classical Fighting Arts magazine. Jussi HäkkinenOkinawan Shorin-Ryu Seibukan Karate-Do (Kyan Chotoku lineage)TurkuFinland
