isshinryu5toforever Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 You would feel like such a jerk after that. And now that it's six it's even better. How can you really argue with someone that came back from an illness that gave him less than a 30% chance of living to win 6 straight Tour de Frances and be at the top of his sport? And who is now dating Sheryl Crowe lol. He who knows others is wise. ShotokanKid Posted March 8, 2005 Author Posted March 8, 2005 ^^ that's a good one "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."

PrideampPoise Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Here's a few I like. I've included the author/speaker when I know who it is. "I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have." -Thomas Jefferson (variation of the one posted by Cmon) The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. ‘Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.’ Winston Churchill ‘It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up.’ Vince Lombardi The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur. - Vince Lombardi ‘The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.’ Vincent Lombardi Sometimes, the road is less traveled for a reason. You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time - that should be enough for most purposes. Don't mess around with people who do crossword puzzles in ink. Character is what you do and how you act when no one is watching. And of course: Don't pee on an electric fence.
ShotokanKid Posted March 15, 2005 Author Posted March 15, 2005 I liked those, they were good "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
monkeygirl Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Sometimes, the road is less traveled for a reason. Just to go off-topic for a sec: that quote really highlights one of the most common misconceptions in poetry. In Frost's poem "The Road Less Traveled", most people assume that his final two lines "And I took the one less traveled by/And that has made all the difference" are meant to say that being individual/nonconformist/etc. leads to great things. However, a closer examination of the poem leads one to see that the speaker is arguably sad that he took the less traveled road. Anyway, we learned about it last year in English, and ever since then I hear sirens go off in my head when I see it quoted. In that respect, your quote is brilliant, Pride&Poise. As have been many of the mottos in this thread! I leave you with this one, which is annoyingly true, albeit well-known: "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise" Although, considering that I'm posting this at 12:37am, you can see that I'm not really taking my own advice on this one. I should though. The world just seems to operate on an earlier schedule...might as well be awake for it. 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
isshinryu5toforever Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 lol very nice monkeygirl. For some reason your post on the misinterpretation of Frost made me think of Romeo and Juliet. Because that entire play is oft misinterpreted, for it is not a grand love story as everyone deems it to be. It is Shakespeare telling everyone how stupid young love is. Also, in the famed "romantic" balcony scene our young Romeo is actually doing quite badly. Anyways, I shouldn't ramble more in a forum that is not meant for my subject. If anyone wants more explaination just contact me. lol, but why would you, it'd be like high school English all over again. "The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life." --Robert Louis Stevenson "You may never know what results come of your actions. But, if you never take action there will be no result." -Mahatma Ghandi He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.- Tao Te Ching"Move as swift as a wind, stay as silent as forest, attack as fierce as fire, undefeatable defense like a mountain."- Sun Tzu, the Art of War
