Taku-Shimazu
I just sort of have a philosophy...not sure I can condense it into a motto, but basically: Everything happens for a reason. When one door closes, another one opens somewhere eventually, so keep your head up and ride out the storm.quote] Good motto, Do you think that just thinking positively can get you through illness better / in addition to illness? Bruce Lee was paralysed while he created JKD and doctors douted he would walk again, do you think that he would have recouvered without his determination? The cool summer breeze passes me by. ShotokanKid
Pretty good motto everyone, thank you for posting! "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
isshinryu5toforever
The funniest one may have come in the movie Dodge Ball. Lance Armstrong says, "I thought about giving up once when I got diagnosed with brain, lung, and testicular cancer all at the same time. But you know what? I got back on that bike and won the Tour de France 5 times in a row. I guess if a guy never give up he'll never have anything to regret. I'm sure you have a great reason for quitting though." monkeygirl
I just sort of have a philosophy...not sure I can condense it into a motto, but basically: Everything happens for a reason. Bruce Lee was paralysed while he created JKD and doctors douted he would walk again, do you think that he would have recouvered without his determination? That's not really the way I think about it...although I do find the whole "it's all in your head" form of medicine is kind of interesting. I'm not sure people can make themselves get better just by thinking about it, but I definitely think you can make yourself get sick faster by assuming you are already sick. Anyway, that doesn't have much to do with my philosophy. Let me give you an example. I had to leave my dojo of 4 years. I loved the place and was really upset about leaving, and it took me awhile to get over it...but if I hadn't left, I never would have enrolled in the elite private school I now attend. If I hadn't enrolled, I never would have even thought of applying to some of the colleges that I've already been accepted to. So even though something may seem like the end of your world at first, eventually you will probably find that it was for the best. I find it gives me a lot of courage when I'm "down in the dumps". When you have hope that it will all be all right, there's not much reason to hang your head and mope all the time. 1st dan & Asst. Now that is hardcore.........How could you argue with that??? A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve.
