Can ANYBODY earn a black belt?

Recommended Posts

Black belt is not so much elite as it is a sign that you really are willing to learn the art you are in. It tells your sensai/sifu if your dedicated and are determined so the real learning can begin. I think anyone can earn a black belt if they work for it, certainly! :D

As others have said, black belt is just the beginning.

I truly believe that with GOOD instruction, anyone who is in REASONABLY good health, can be a black belt.

See my sig, that's what it is all about.

A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!

once again back to the age old argument

"just because your a black belt does not mean you can fight"

I totally agree with you on this, but I think, and I feel Shorinryu Sensei and some of the other old guys, (Sorry SS, no disrespect intended! :) ) will agree with me when I say: It's not about fighting.

I got over that around green belt, when I realized that the brown belt I had running all over the floor avoiding me, the next week was, the guy that pounded me into dust.

Its NOT about the shoes... err, belt.

A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!

Agreed...now, if I could find my walker and my laxative, I'd shuffle over your way and kick you with my orthopedic shoes! :dodgy:

With enough dedication and training, anyone can become a black belt. Being a black belt is about perfecting the basics. Anyone can do that. The path can simply be more difficult for some than for others.

I totally agree

I agree 100%. (course I'm not a BB yet, so that might not mean much coming from me, but I do believe it)

In my organization, sparring is part of the testing for Black Belt. If you cannot fight effectively, including multiple rounds against higher ranks, you do not pass the test.

Therefore, you must be able to fight in order to be a Black Belt.

Be careful. You had better distinguish between point sparring and fighting. That'll get a lot of comments. :)
