karsh44 Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 Both arts in the title are available to me in my home city. Can anyone give more detail about how they compare for self defense? I've seen good things posted here about the versatility of ninjutsu, and hapkido, but I haven't really seen anything about combat hapkido as a separate variation of hapkido. Any information about either art would be much appreciated
Davison Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 I think it would come down to who is teaching those systems. I don't think there are vary many legit ninjutsu instructors out there unless the system is some sort of a hybrid system. I probably would go for the hapkido school. If I was you, I would just go to both dojo's and check them out to see for your self Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them
karsh44 Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 Thanks for the reply. The ninjutsu seems relatively legit, with pics of the instructor w/ Dr. Hatsumi, but the description of the combat hapkido style was more interesting. I'm still hoping someone who has trained in combat hapkido will give their opinon of the style though
Why_Worry Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I actually think ninjitsu is pretty cool but i would recomend going with whatever you like better. Something i found out although i dont knwo if it was completely true is that in japan the military uses ninjas kind of as swat/spies/riotcontrol. Of course they arent wearing the traditional outfit, but they use ninjitsu. But if one of the two is a commercial/franchise school i would go with the one that is NOT a franchise/comercial school, otherwise its completely yoru choice. Focus
UseoForce Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 I'm so sorry I got to this thread so late. Karsha, direct any ?'s about combat hapkido to me. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
Sengra Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Ninjutsu..wow!!!..my dream martial arts...hehehe..^_^ The stronger swordsman does not always win.
sk0t Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 I also have trained extensively in Combat Hapkido (ICHF). So if you have any questions, PM ME as well... sk0t"I shall not be judged by what style I know, but how I apply that style againsts yours..."
granmasterchen Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 not to burst your bubble...but the Japanese military does not have a group of ninjas that they use for recon or spying operations....no country does....instead we have military groups that are trained in that area...but not trained specifically in ninjutsu...yet today's recon forces would be some of the closest things that you would find to modern day ninjas.my advice would be to watch each class and see what points you like, if you like one over the other pick that one. it all boils down to the instructor, if you have a good one you will learn some good stuff, if you have a bad one, then you will have a bad experience regardless of the style being taught.in my experience with each art I have found that combat hapkido works alot on manipulations like aikido....but with a little more striking arts miked in to give it the combat aspect compared to typical hapkido.as far as ninjutsu...."usually" the art form has the easiest katas I have ever seen, the self defense is designed to handle any situation, self defense is the strong point of the art, they also teach multiple weapons....but again, it all boils down to the instructor,,,,every instructor teaches differently from the next and may have a completely different curriculum for their students to learn....so go check out each class and let us know what you find out.hope that helps That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
Anbu Alex Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 YEA what grandmasterchen said when it comes to ninjutsu its hard to find a ligit one trust me therare only really 3 legit groups you can say still around Bujinkan, Genbukan, and Jinbukan like any other martial art there are bad and good teachers of the art i say just check out the school and look for their teaching Liscences first White belt for life"Destroy the enemies power but leave his life"
Anbu Alex Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 also the kata forms seem easy but if you do it in front of a really good instructor he will find the faults they are harder than they look thats what makes it deceptive White belt for life"Destroy the enemies power but leave his life"
