Gyte Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 I think I found a good Karate movie, namely "the Perfect Weapon" starring Jeff Speakman. The style Jeff Speakman practises in the movie is Kempo Karate. In the movie he uses a lot of kicks and punches, which are executed with very good technique. What does everbody else think about this movie? Can it be called a Karate movie? ShunGokuSatsu Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Sonny Chiba in The Street Fighter series. Movies so violent they were banned in Japan and several other countries.
ivette_green Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 isn't there is a japanese Karate movie about the story of O'yama sensei, the founder of Kyokushing ryu????lol, you make him (Oyama) look Irish. "Don't tell me what I can't do."
Bruce WillPete7 Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 (edited) isn't there is a japanese Karate movie about the story of O'yama sensei, the founder of Kyokushing ryu????I dont know about the japanese karate movie part, but they did make a great korean movie on the life of Mas Oyama, its a great drama/action/everything anyone would want in one film. It portrays Oyama in the light most martial artists are not portrayed in. It touched me deeply. Oh yea, the title of the film is "FIGHTER IN THE WIND." kzshin Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 lol, you make him (Oyama) look Irish.?????? I don't get it.I think Sonny Chiba made some movie tribute to Oyama Sensei thou.
UpTheIrons Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 I went to see "A Perfect Weapon" years ago with a friend of mine (we were both MA film buffs) when it came out. It was our opinion that Speakman got his butt kicked by the Tae Kwon Do guys. However, since he was the star, it would not look good to lose to a bunch of Tae Kwon Do guys. So he had to win. Bruce WillPete7 Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 lol, you make him (Oyama) look Irish.?????? I don't get it.I think Sonny Chiba made some movie tribute to Oyama Sensei thou. You typed O'yama earlier probably a typo but like most Irish names the ' in Oyama makes it look like O'connor, or O'reilly, or O'harra. All of which are Irish names, and pronounced OH, YAMA. Or OH, CONNOR. You get the picture, hope that helps. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless like water. Monkeymagic Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 What about Dolph Lundgren? He studied Kyokushinkai and now is a 3rd dan. He's made 25 films. I am sure most of them he uses karate in... Monkeymagic Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Jean-Claude Van Damme also studied Shotokan karate, aswell as other martial arts, so I am sure he brought some karate into his films...
