JKD must be very dependent on the instructor then. I can see situations where people will take steps backwards instead of forwards.

What may seem practical to me, may not be to the next. If he is a teacher what is the likelyhood that he would include something he see's as impractical in the ciriculum?

I like your analogy of the statue and clay YODA, but you can add too much sometimes and loose the essence of what you are creating.

I imagine there must be a fine balance out there.

I believe everyone will reach have a base whether it be Jun Fan or something else in which will influence their style, and the direction they take...

Because of where I live the best I can get is JKD books.

I have studied some it it, practised some of it, retained some of it and disgarded some of it and this is what Bruce Lee thought was good. Opening your mind and exploring for yourself.

But I think the thing I learnt best from Bruce Lee was in the area of physical fitness move over than anything. He inspired me to set goals, high goals and pay the price to achieve them.

Keeping an open mind is not just vital for martial arts, it is vital in every single part of your life. Those who do not adapt and are not able or willing to mold to new surfaces when needed often experience great hardship, frustration, sadness, all that negative crap LOL.
