YODA
Who spars with weapons? I don't mean pre-arranged sparring but free sparring with contact. What level of contact? Do you use protective equipment - or maybe padded weapons? Has anyone seen the "Dog Brothers" videos? This is part of what I do. _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-02-02 04:47 ] YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
Phantasmatic
at our dojo we do spar with weapons, but only once a month. We do not use protection but we have to kime 6 in. before hitting the person and then we have to bring the weapon bcak out before the other person can "block" or hit the weapon before it gets back into a defensive position. You kinda have to see it before you can understand it. I dont like it as much as chumbara, which is sparring with foam swords, very similar to kendo but with less rules. YODA
.......... for those not familiar with the Dog Brothers weapons sparring format - check out their website. http://www.dogbrothers.com/index1.htm This is something you cannot do very often - but it sure does focus your training! Joecooke007
Weapons sparring sounds dangerous and that's why I love it. You have to be very careful though. I know people that have almost been killed and their friends were brought up on charges so if you are considering weapons sparring be careful and don't die! SBN Doug
Nothing formal. The formal training is all pre-arranged. However, some of us upper black belts occationally do a little 3/4 speed sparring with limited contact. Just looking for spontanious application of the techniques we've learned.
