in this instance, I would give it to the chuks...they seem better for fighting up closer...less wieldy.

Im actually going to say the nunchuks, better offence, partly because it is harder and faster, so if you get a good hit at the opponent your good to go, but martial arts isnt about hurting someone, its about fighting someone. So, i would say the nunchuks, only for offense.

but really if you are defending yourself use the chain whip, it is longer, and lessens the impact, say if you were to be holding the nunchuks and someone hit them fast with a bo staff or "nunchuks" it would give you that tingling sensation (like if you were to hit a baseball with a wooden bat) and your hands would go asleep, which would definately lose your concentration.

So it depends if you are an offensive fighter, or a defensive fighter. I know you are going to use them for defense, but if you are going to hit them.. dont hit them with the chain whip. it sucks when you get hit with one.

Sorry that wasnt a very good explination. If you want the best answer? go ask your Master, he/she should know what to do. but i hope that helped.

I'm gonna say neither one because you can't have them during a fight. Anybody walk around with nunchuckau or a chain whip with them?

I appolgize if this post sounds rude, but I find it silly to think about defending yourself with something you are most likely never gonna get the the opprotunity to use in a self-defense situation.

Take this for what it is, only my opinion and nothing more.

according to an article in a magazine i read ( i really don't feel like looking it up), the chain whip was just used as a secondary weapon, incase you lost or broke your primary one. y'know, you could whip it out (heh heh) to distract them so you could make your escape or perhaps get in a good final strike before taking it to hands or something. it wasn't really meant as an offensive weapon.

the nunchaku, on the other hand, was designed to shatter ones skull.

so i've heard.
