Do Black-Belts have to register themselves as weapons

In the United Staes, the answer is "no."

 

There is no Federal, or State, law that requires the registration of one's self as a deadly weapon, destructive device, etc.

 

Now, there might have been a few wacky localities that have tried this, but such legislation simply has an extremely poor chance ot passing, and even if it did manage to pass, it would probably only happen in some small, way out city that doesn't have the resources to enforce such junk legislation, and thus a moot issue anyways. Finally, such legislation would never hold up in a court challenge.

Although there is no basis for this myth, i'm glad that is exists. It makes things so much easier when you're trying to figure out if this crazy redneck is telling the truth or not. Once you hear that phrase '...register my hands...' you know that it's all a lie.

Somebody once told me that you could be charged with attempted murder if you hit someone and it wasn't in a self defence situation (in the UK). Probably rubbish though.

Have to say that it is now legal in England if trespassers in your home pose a risk to your safety they you are allowed to defend yourself even if it means the death of the trespasser.

jsut to answer the post about the farmer - he shot them while they were running away - so technically he wasnt "defending his home" - even though they had burgled and vandalised his house many times before.

Nope, no statute, but as others have pointed out, you can be held liable for your training if you get into an incident.

It's based on the "reasonable and prudent" principle, and affects many people such as cops, medics, MA's, etc. They compare what you did with what a "reasonable and prudent" person with the same training would do. If they deem it excessive, then you're in trouble.

The problem is in who gets to define reasonable and prudent.
