spinninggumby
At my old kung fu kwoon a while back, I was always taught to tuck the non-kicking leg while performing jumping spin (or non-spinning) kicks. However, after receiving instruction on refining the 540 hook or 540 roundhouse from my taekwondo sah bum nim, I noticed that he did not emphasize the tuck of the leg at all. Also, in many tkd demonstrations that I have seen, the 540 hooks, although beautiful, do not include a tucked leg. Not that this is really important or anything but does anybody have any input. BTW my school is a WTF school so maybe the answers will differ depending on what organization you are from (traditional, sport, etc.). It still feels weird for me after converting from a strict traditional environment to a sport-oriented environment. The training is not any less or more strenuous but the ultimate objectives are definitely somewhat different. three60roundhouse
Only experienced fighters are taught later to "tuck" their other leg. It is easier to learn just letting the other leg "hang", but I think it's better to tuck. I haven't been taught 540's yet, but I do this for flying/jumping kicks and 360's. 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt! SBN Doug
One, not the only, reason for performing a jump kick of any kind is to avoid a low attack at the same time. So, for that purpose, it would obviously loose its usefulness if you leave one leg hanging. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing. taezee
its all a matter of personal preference...i know many fighters who tuck and who also leave the leg out..it really doesnt make differences on hieght or counter attack..... Deathcometh
i guess it depends on whether the person you are fighting may try and take advantage of a leg just sitting there.
