As a high school kid, you're going to pretty much have to resign yourself to relatively unskilled labor, unless you possess some unique talent that's quite marketable.

That being said, you should probably just look in the newspaper AND walk around town. Figure out what you want to do in general (manual labor, food service, etc.) and ask around. Some places don't even list in the newspaper because they are more selective. Call around, show some initiative. You ARE looking for a job, meaning you better get used to doing WORK. It almost never simply falls into your lap, you're going to have to be proactive (meaning you can't always rely on the comfort of surfing the web for everything).

You live in San Francisco, so finding large areas of food services shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck for getting a job!

Get out there and ask around - that's probably your best option, rather than looking at jobs on the net.

Do you need a licence to do that?

You do in the UK, but a lot of people don't bother - they just learn to run really fast whenever they see a copper!

If you're 16 or 17, it won't be too difficult. If you're 14 or 15, it's only legal with a workers permit and VERY difficult to get hired. (These are the laws for VA anyway)

During the summer you're chances are better because job listings will often say "Great for Students" and you can work longer hours.

I'm 14 and the reason I'm able to get a part-time job is because of networking- my grandfather knows someone who owns a small store. Check the laws for your state to see if you need a workers permit. Try networking, and make sure you have references such as teachers, MA instructors, etc. Volunteering is a good way to get experience and references. You can also look into many careers that way. (Ex: Medical career- help out at hospital.)
