He may very well be a good sensei for another club, but I think he's a little young to be running his own club.

My sensei is 26 and I have no problem with that, he is quite qualified (I dont feel the need to list off why he is qualified here)

I did find it funny that there was no class schedule listed, nor were there class photos (as someone else mentioned) and his prices seem rather high...but I guess that's up the student who is going there to decide. One month of his prices gets me 3 months of kendo though lol.

ok, let's remove the situation from this individual.

let's say we have a 16 year old guy who has been doing xma for the past 8 years of his life.

let's say he consistantly wins the forms competitions that he enters and is ranked as one of the best.

why isn't he qualified to teach xma?

He can teach it to people his own age but I wouldnt take a class from that guy. He is winning tournaments from people his own age not grown ups outside in the real world.

so do you agree that to a certain extent he IS qualified to teach his xma?

let's put another perspective onto this.

bruce lee never got anywhere near finishing his training in wing chun, yet when he first taught, he was teaching wing chun.

how does that fit into all of this?

add to it the fact that wing chun is a fighting art, not a performance art like xma is.

Well, I'm not going to say much about Bruce Lee. I have a rather low opinion of him in the first place, so that line of reasoning actually lost points with me...

But I think the main thrust of the argument against him teaching is that most people who are at his age simply lack the maturity to actually teach. Being a teacher is more than simply conducting a class. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. Even if he is technically pretty decent, it does not necessarily mean that he has developed critical thinking skills in regards to what he does which I believe are neccessary to distinguish someone who simply holds class and someone who is a teacher.

I could be totally wrong. Maybe he is mature and is more than competent in a technical sense (if only in XMA, that is). But I would be extremely surprised.
