tkdBill Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I wish I was shorter so just ONCE somebody would try to do that to me. You have never had someone even attempt a jump kick to your head? How tall are you? In my style of TKD, it's a 3 point kick, so it's worth learning to do well. Connecting a jump spin kick in competition is a thing of beauty!! --
krzychicano Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 wow you must be pretty tall or very scary looking or both What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others. - Confucius
1kickKO Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 If I were you don't worry about his height...go for speed. Normally they have a longer reach, but close them up, go aroudn them, get them dizzy, and attack.
krzychicano Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Spin them around like people spin kids before hitting a pinata then hes yours! What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others. - Confucius

Of course I'm not referring to street fighting, I would never attempt a jump kick or even a head kick in that situation. The original post was about sparring someone tall, and my answer was meant to be a little tongue-in-cheek. I do, however, teach my students to use jump kicks properly in sparring. Most importantly, how to disguise them so that their opponent doesn't see it coming, and also how to land properly, and to execute an effective follow-up attack. --
1kickKO Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Today I had a tournament and got a jumpkick in, everybody said I scored but the judges didn't call it...but ohh well that comes with the territory.
tkdBill Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Unfortunately, it's the judges who are the ones who have to see it. Since most tournament judges are very experienced, they likely had a valid reason for not scoring it. --
