yamesu Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 If you fight, your inevetably going to get hit. If your not used to being hit, your going to go down........fast. Most all Karate styles, and other MA press a pretty strong viewpoint on the areas of conditioning. invisiblemaster.com OSU. "We did not inherit this earth from our parents. pineapple Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Of course, your ultimate goal is not to get hit at all, however, in a real street fight, no matter how much you train, there is a good possiblity that you'll get hit. This is why it is important to have hard contact sparring so you get conditioned to taking a hit. If you've never been hit hard before, you'll go into a reality shock and lose your mental edge in a fight and once you lose your mental edge, you'll lose physically. What works works
AngelaG Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 The problem is that if a relatively strong person gets a hit in to your head it probably won't matter how conditioned you are - they are most likely going to win the fight! AngelaG Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Except for when you are sucker punched from behind... I experienced this..........you know what happened?........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Yeah, poor you Did they leave you once you where down, or lay into you? The problem is that sometimes all the training in the world won't help you with this kind of attack. I know we are supposed to keep situational awareness but we are only human, plus they may have one of their buddies keeping your attention in the front. pers Posted February 19, 2005 Author Posted February 19, 2005 Well ,there is no question that in a fight situation you may get hit ,but the idea is to minimise your exposer and maximise his exposer to your attack ! As angela said some times all the coditinening for getting hit can not help you ! If the guy has a knife in his hand then you can not afford to get hit or it could be the end of you ! so as my sensie used to tell us : Don't be there (tai sabaki ) ! never give up !
AngelaG Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Unless it's your job I think you have to ask yourself, why was I put in this position? After all if you know a pub down the road has a notorious reputation but you still visit it every week, then you are slightly to blame and have to ask yourself why you are there. The first rule of self-defence is don't put yourself in these situations. Of course, if you are the security on the door then the situation is a bit different Tokonkai Karate-do Instructorhttp://www.karateresource.com Kata, Bunkai, Articles, Reviews, History, Uncovering the Myths, Discussion Forum
pineapple Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Did they leave you once you where down, or lay into you? According to witnesses, the guy ran up to me from behind, hit me and immediately ran away. What works works
