whatever
I'm not scared of getting hurt in a fight, I am afraid to lose.. mainly because I am in high school. I would rather get hurt real bad in a fight and WIN, rather than lose and only get a little bruised up.

GhostlySykanRyu
Ego problems... You study JKD correct? Reread the Tao...within Lee states that it is all right to lose, as long as you know why you are losing. If you are fighting (which in high school can almost always be avoided), you need to empty your mind and not worry about the outcome. To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.
krzychicano
Rise above that ego man trust me in a few years you will look back at it and wonder why the hell did I even care about that. Davison
Everyone loses a fight at one point in their life, its human nature,no ones perfect.Losing makes you learn from your mistakes .Losing helps build character.I wouldn't worry about it too much, when the time comes, just defend yourself to the best of your abilitys. Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them
1kickKO
Davison said it best...just don't even worry about it. Get that ego out of there and work with what you have to go by.
Kempohands
Whatever, I am also in high school (9th grade), and let me tell you, as a martial artist, you must, not should, MUST, get over this. I have NEVER been in a real fight before and that is because I swallow my ego on myriads of occasions instead of fighting. I have been verbally bullied throughout my school life, and never have I ever even thought to strike anyone. Even when people HAVE challenged my skills as a fighter I turned the other way. That is what makes you a great martial artist, avoiding conflict. So much of MA training is mental, you should be building a mentality that you don't want to fight at all, even if this will ruin your rep more than losing (it will for a while, but trust me, people will begin to repsect you when they mature to realize that walking away makes you the stronger person). Ego should have no place in your life, even in high school. You should get the greatest satisfaction from walking away from a fight, because that is the ultimate victory, even if nobody else sees it. "To win a fight without fighting, that is the true goal of a martial artist." -Grandmaster Nick Cerio
yamesu
Well said wtKempostudent. IMHO; Physical prowess makes us martial masters, But it takes a lot more mental training and concious stability before we can truly call ourselves artists at what we do......
