KwicKixJ1 Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 hi guys, was wondering what you guys did to strengthen your lower backs. in taekwondo, multiple kicks with alternating legs is pretty common, and i was wondering what you guys did to strengthen your lower back to prevent injury during such kicking combinations. because the twisting during r, roundhouse l,roundhouse r,roundhouse l,roundhouse r,roundhouse is definitly a combination that requires a lot of lower back strength. and momentum of course. but i think lower back strength more. in my opinion. anyways, any pointers or tips would be greatly appreciated.
taiji fajin Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Just normal work-out things, nothing really ma specific. Things like laying on your stomach, and then raising the front half of your body in reps with your arms out in front of you, somewhat like super man. Then you can add in things like also raising your legs, raising just right arm and just left leg, etc. Or there are machines at gyms that can workout your back. Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! JaseP Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Slow Kicks - slow, isometric kicks for proper technique as you gradually increase the length of time held at full extension, and the height as well. This will strengthen the muscles that support the kick from chamber to final extension and back. Master Jason Powlette5th Dan, Tang Soo Do--Tang Soo!!!
KSWDanMan Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 agreed with JaseP, Slow the kicks down, even if you have to use something to balance with, until you gain that strength.. 1 excercise we do all the time, is what we call rolling back... So sit on your but straight up, pull feet in flat so knees are up, then arms out to your side fingers spread, roll back slowly, and pull your legs all the way over your head, and try and touch the toes to the ground.. great stretch.
