Konnichiwa,

Is it really possible to take on 5 thugs at a time and win?

How experienced do you need to be to do this?

If I get attacked I want to Know whether I can survive if I can't avoid it?

The cool summer breeze passes me by.

Yes.

There isn't a magical point in your training that says "OK, now you can take on 5 guys at once." Some people would never be able to do it, while others can do it within a few years if properly trained. I also believe a lot of it has to do with which system you practice. I'm not going to name any names, but there are systems out there...big, popular systems, that IMHO, would have trouble defeating just one person in a real fight, let alone five. Some systems are geared by their teaching methods and techniques to move, manipulate, and set up their opponents for failure. Meaning...yes, you can fight and hopefully (there are no guarantee's) defeat multiple opponents.

Naturally, avoiding it is always the best alternative..even against one person. No one can tell you if you'll ever be able to defeat one...let alone 5 thugs in a street fight. Only doing it will tell the tale. And another thing...you might be able to do it one day...but not the next. Situations and circumstances vary with every occurance, and what works one time may not work the next.

My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"

Maybe when you are lucky.. it all depends who are "those" 5 thugs. If they freeze after the first drop of blood or maybe you freeze....

And about styles.. Hmm I think a well trained Wing Tsun practioner could pull it of. ..depends of the person ofcourse... But Wing Tsun as a style is certainly effective against multiple opponents.

sure its possible, but not if when you fight it looks like youre jackie chan. the key is (aside from not winding up on the ground) to move, take them out quickly, and try not to get surrounded.

hard punches to the face (nose or throat or something like that) will stop a lot of people, elbows even moreso, leg kicks- if youre good enough at them- will level unconditioned (for MT) people, kicks to the stomache will stop them dead in their tracks too. then theres always the knees and groin, hehe.... and if youre feeling lucky, or just good at it, a throw or take down that slams them hard into the ground will usually stop someone.

If you look at the way Jackie Chan choreographs, he use the environments(acrobatics yadayada) a LOT! Unless you are surrounded, it will be best to do the same. Thats one of the reasons why I believe acrobatics is a good thing to learn. Of cause not to jump around but be agile enough to use the environments to your advantage.

And of cause learn to use the Adrenalin to your advantage, like Jackie Chan does in his films(however that is done, beats me). I dont know how to use it for fighting, only running :-? .

...if you watch jackie chan fight sequences, you'll 'see' him fight 4/5 people at the same time.

this is where his skill/genius comes into play.

the action is organised so that in reality, he only ever faces one person at a time and yet, it still gives the impression of fighting more than one.

earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.

don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers.

sure, if you are really good.

and don't fight like Jackie Chan, unless you are in Home Depot.

Fights that involves fighting more than one opponent is possible to win.

In my opinion, footwork is a big part of handicap fights.May sound stupid, but id rather be contious than have someone sneak up behind me while the other one is attacking.

Someone mention taking up acrobatics to help agility. Do you think playing a sport such as touch rugby, which requires you to be able to move fast and stop and dodge and skip around between people without being touched by a finger tip will help agility?
