seersin
I always read that his winter training was tough.Going up to Mt.Mitsumine for a week.Jumping in lakes, working out under waterfalls, all in tha freezing winter. That's some serious training. senna_trem
Anyone who has trained with Shihan Bobby Lowe will have trained with one of Mas Oyamas students. I am unsure if they do winter training, or if the winter training counts, as Shihan Lowe is situated in Hawaii. Kevin K.
I would image that Saiko Shihan Y. Oyama has (one of my instructors) as I believe he lived with him for some time (I know his brother Soshu Shigeru did). Ted T.
We've done that a few times here - but not in Oyama's tradition. We shut the heat off during a cold spell, hovering just below 0º, and the first class of the day is at 5:30 am with the windows and doors open. The training is basics repeated hundreds of times, hundreds of each block, or kick or punch. Sometimes to break the monotony, we do a kata over and over fifty or seventy times. Then home to breakfast and work or school. We end with a visit to a waterfall for "meditation" (I put it in quotes because it is a secret word in Okinawan that means torture! ) after the final workout on the beach or even knee high in the ocean. Everyone who as done it has survived! Ted TruscottThe Raising Canes Club
seersin
Yeah,I'd like to get myself prepared for some type of training like that.Okinawan words that means torture!!!! that's funny. ISAIAH 53:
EvilTed
Kevin, Mas Oyama was Korean. He was adopted by Soshu's family so Soshu and Saiko Shihan are essentially his half brothers. He took the name Oyama from their family. Get a copy of the 1970s "Hardest Karate" Vol 2. This shows the then Saiko Shihan of Kyokushin (Soshu) and Saiko Shihan training Shihan Miura.
