Kaminari
I first got into it for, most importantly, a healthy, active hobby, and also for self-defense, but that wasn't as important. Now I don't think I could bear not to. It's so addicting!
Cmon
I'd just like to add that in the uk, not many people have weapons. If they have knives then you are taught how to deal with them anyway.
1kickKO
Fun is a key principle for me, self-defense 2nd, and fitness 3rd .
Highler
I do it just for the love of it......I think its awesome learning new things. I'm surprised there's anything left for you to learn MJ 'The cat taught the tiger everything he knows. One day the tiger turned on the cat and the cat ran up a tree. That was the one thing the cat never taught the tiger.'

Knifehand007
from a self-defence perspective, a martial artist will have an advantage. even a little training goes a long way, from a confidence perspective. From a lifestyle perspective, every Cho Dan i talk to about martial arts is on a quest to better themselves. Kick higher, punch harder, more accurately. Its a discipline. Strength is no match for skill
1kickKO
Tradition does have it's effects on MA's too..people are drawn to that kind of stuff sometimes...depending on the person. Some people like the discipline, etc..
