JOMA
Shotokan is a good place to start. You're there already. The quality of the style comes from how well your Sensei passes it on to you. Good luck and work hard.
seersin
Since you apparently like Karate I woulld say just keep working hard at Shotokan.I would have personally picked any type of Okinawan or Japanese karate regardless of what style it was.Things vary and switch, and different forms, but it's all still tha Karate we love. Shorin Ryuu
If you are interested in different styles, try getting Unante: the secrets of karate by John Sells, it is one of the most informative books with over 500 pages, sadly the price is very high but in my opinion it is a "must have" for any serious karateka interested in detailed history of karate. Yes. Yes. Yes! I agree completely. Now if only I could get my hands on Uechi Kanei's Okinawa Karatedo...(over 1300 pages in Japanese....) Karate-addict
Now if only I could get my hands on Uechi Kanei's Okinawa Karatedo...(over 1300 pages in Japanese....)Ah yes, the bible of Uechi-ryu karate. Actually it's in Okinawan dialect (Hogen) not Japanese and it is said to be impossible to read. Luckily there are a lot of pictures , so I was able to get much information out of it. hara wo neru
