Master Jules Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 It involves a lot of "mental", as well as the actual physical action. You have to "send" the power to your hand. I perform this technique, and have it on film. The thought that goes through my mind while hitting can best be described like this.....If youve ever seen the cartoon "Popeye", when he eats the spinach, and his body kind of "convulses" with the power.....its tough to describe, but I "feel" the power kind of "shoot" to my hand, and the punch just "pops".....again....tough to explain. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
kle1n Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 for more strength regarding the one inch punch you must train your wrist. place your wrist vertacly infront of you with your top two knuckles beeing the knuckles that are most foward.thrust your fist into the front and try to bring your bottom three knuckles infront through using your wrist.thats the main secret. by the way try that on a bag 200 times a day and in 6 months you see first results... Be everything. Be nothing.

For it to be effective, you must have both proper strinking form and control of your ki. To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.

Wing Chun (especially the style I train) works on one inch energy (or even no inch energy). To see it doesn't make sense. DunDunna Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 the 1 inch punch is one of the first techniques taught in Wing Chun, mainly because it takes so much practice to perfect it. the way that my Sifu explained it to me is this. the key to it is remaining completely relaxed until the moment of the strike (actual contact) then become as tense as possible in your first and arm. also you have to train the muscle groups to get used to punching from the elbow and not from the shoulder. you do this by practicing constantly. when you are confortable with your technique then you move on to using a heavy bag and practicing it while concentrating on the finer details of the hit. i have been at it for four years now and i can get a 230lb bag swinging, but my Sifu who has been at it for 18 years gets the bag swinging at least twice as much as me! he demonstrated it on me once infront of the class and put me on my *, and im 6'2" and 250lbs.
ovine king Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 the key to this is strong wrists. if you watch a good wing chun guy you will see something the chinese call "still" wrists. that is, when-ever they do a movement involving the wrists, it remains completely still. also, the movement is very clear and precise. circling hands and grabbing hands exercises form the basics of wrist training. knife basics also work the wrists. (and a lot of 'weight training' as well) if you know these then you have a firm ground on which to work/train your wrists. incidentally, i wasn't taught to hit the bag straight away for fear of hurting my weak wrists. even when i was hitting a bag, i was encouraged not to use the wrist movements unless i was sure my wrist wouldn't 'collapse'/break form. (note: the above is based on what was taught to me many, many moons ago and may differ from what you might've read in that little book you might have seen...) earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers.
