kazz Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 hey everyone.. I stopped taking TKD when iwas about 8 because i somehow lost interest... now that im 15, is it too late for me to start up a gain? i probably wont do TKD again, but maybe aikido or JJJ... what do u guys think? how sould i tell my parents that im serious this time?
VinnieDaChin Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 do research before hand and show them exactly what you want to do and why and all that. by the way look in to bjj, its good stuff.
pineapple Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 It's never too late to start training! Tell your parents that now that you're older, you appreciate more of what martial arts can do for you! What works works
1kickKO Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 I agree with pineapple 100%..you can never be to old to start the martial arts...heck I know some people who are 60 somethin' still kickin'. Just tell them how serious you are, and get info ready beforehand and show them that you are serious..what styles are available? What quite are you looking for in the martial arts? Self defense? Fun? Tournaments? To get in shape? Get all this together, find something you like, get info, and then show them you're serious..
CloudDragon Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Try this, "Mom, Dad I want to start martial arts training again." It worked for me. The thing is, parents know that you aren't the same person you were when you were 8, so they will likely see it from a different perspective. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
Souldburned Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 I have an weird story..I also was in MA when I was 8, I was doing karate, I quit it after a while. ( i dont know what style ) and the last year, When I was 14 ( I´m 15 now) ( about 6 mohts ago) my parents said to me to start doing karate again. I started again, for about 5 moths I was hating it. ( In that hole five months I didnt even learnt the first kata ). Now about 1 moth ago, I started loving it. Just ask your parents if you can start again. I´m sure that if you really want to, they will let you do it.
senna_trem Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 Check out all the dojos in your area before settling down with TKD for the long haul, maybe one of the reasons you stopped when you were 8 was related to something in TKD. "I think therefore I am" Rene Descartes
krzychicano Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 I agree with various posts here. Do your research and then approach them with all your information and I'm sure they will not have a problem with it. 1kickKO Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 So any info on talking to your parents about the idea of starting up again? Be sure to let us know what happens!
