BlackI Posted August 23, 2002 Posted August 23, 2002 I like that Danny Boy. Very True!!! I agree with both sides of the agruement, but I think if a person is comfortable with their techinique and their ablities I don't think It will matter. ramymensa Posted September 2, 2002 Posted September 2, 2002 I'm a girl, 1.70m and only 48 kg. I think size DOES matter. Especially if I have to defend myself against a 1.85m/80 kg male. Probably he wouldn't feel me kicking him Just a thought World Shotokan Karate
Radok Posted September 3, 2002 Posted September 3, 2002 I WOULD SAY THAT SIZE DOESN'T MATTER, STRENGTH DOES. IT JUST HAPPENS THAT BIGGER GUYS ARE USSUALLY STRONGER. THAT IS WHY THEY USSUALLY WIN, BECAUSE THEY'RE STRONGER, NOT BECAUSE THERE TALLER. IF THE SHORTER GUY IS STRONGER, THAN HE HAS THE ADVANTAGE. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.

justb Posted September 5, 2002 Posted September 5, 2002 I think it depends on the types of fight one is in, though generally the enhanced reach of a taller/larger person is a distinct advantage. Weight advantage obviously figures in differently and matters in different styles of fighting. Thanks B
BlackI Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 Hey 360, Was that a UFC fight?? In search of the Temple of Light

DeeLovesKarate Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 Sizes DO matter.. Specially if the bigger guy knows how to use his weight as a weapon.. But, That just an advantage.. Not a guarantee that just because you are big you will always win. You need to learn how to fight diferent people with diferent sizes.. Ah, and again, we meet the double-edged sword. Don't forget that the little guy can also use the bigger guys weight as a weapon against him. I believe it's mostly skill, not size. Oh, and one more thing, it's not only physical strength that matters. " There are different kinds of strength, Julie-san." Focus is one kind of strength, and paired with spirit, it will always conquer. Grrrr, Dee Dee C.Normal ( 'nor-m&l)-an adj. used by humans to stereotype

kicker Posted October 22, 2002 Posted October 22, 2002 It matters a little because mostly the taller people have a longer reach then a shorter person. So they probably well try to keep the other person farther away from them so they can't land to many punches on them. The smaller person might be quicker and could get closer to them to land a punch. But if this is like a street fight or something like that then it matters more because you might face a big guy or a small guy or someone about the same as you. when you do your best it`s going to show.
