Larger "people" (there are women on this board too!) will have the advantage as far as

having more mass at their disposal. However, more is not better as the minimum to get the job done is more efficient than trying to bring everything you have. At the beginning of our training, we all tend to use too much of everything. As we get better, we use just enough to get the 'job' done, whatever that may be. Using the 'more is better' approach can be taken advantage of by someone who can manipulate everything in excess of what is really needed.

...at least that is how I see it!

You have to utilize strengths in your style. I don't think there is a single style that doesn't preach using the opponents weight against them. It's about fighting smart, not size.

I'm not the largest guy in the world anymore, but because of my work I have some serious disadvantages when it comes to size. If you fight smart size becomes less of a factor.

There are "conflict models" that actually look at the issue of size, and the bottom line is that if two people of equal skill fight, the person of greater size has a better chance of winning. Of coure the variable here is skill, andit is difficult to detemine what would be considered equal skill.

Size matters. After a couple of sparring there is no doubt about it that it is easier to take on smaller people than bigger people.

Size can be overcome by perfect timing and accuracy which sounds easy but it is infact much harder than it seems.

Size definitely does not count. A small opponent may be quick and more apt to dodge a punch. They may be able to punch before the opponent can block. If the going gets frough the small get going ALOT faster then a large person. The terms do not always apply. :karate:

Size shouldn't matter as long as you are confident in yourself and your ability. Self pride may have something to do with that too...

Size only matters when your opponent is bigger than you. ;)

The other day, I witnessed a kid (green belt) about 6'4" 250# pick up and throw a smaller blackbelt across the room during an exercise. The kid looks like Dolph Lungren.

Yeah size DOES matter, don't kid yourself. (pun intended) :D

It does in some ways...the person has to know how to use there size to their advantage or it will become a disadvantage. Some larger people may think they have the fight won just to be surprized by the smaller person.

well said Blue Dragon I agree fully

It reminds me of this grading I was helping out at... I had to spar these two little 8 year olds (more like me messing up their hair while they try to hit me...helps build offense) And first there was the big kid, look like he might blast out whith energy (so I covered my groin cause he was about that tall :D ) but he was just a little well pathetic. ANyway next was this little scronny kid (that looked like harry potter :) ) And he went abosolutly psych on me. So looks can be decieving :)

Bruce Lee once said that if he was 6'2" he would rule the world.

Even the great Bruce Lee realized that a persons size makes a huge difference.

Of course there are so many other factors that make up a great fighter but if I had my choice I'd be bigger.

I believe that allother factors being equal, the bigger guy has the edge, that is of course unless the size is useless flab..Heh heh.

-My opinion :D
