The Law Of The Fist Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 Does anyone know of any books or videos that could help me learn samurai sword? Neither of my two schools teach it. I have a friend who knows a good amount, but doesn't really have the time to teach me alot.
JKDkid2 Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Depends what style of swordmanship u want iado aikido kendo
ProjectJanus Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 I know a styl- that I personaly take- that doesnt use a katana, but a sword that is very close to it. Check it out, its called Haidong Gumdo. https://www.hdgd.org There will always be the Jackie Chans and Jet Li's who will come along and dazzle us with their screen antics. But Bruce Lee was a seeker of knowledge, a true master of the fighting arts and philosophy.
The Law Of The Fist Posted February 15, 2005 Author Posted February 15, 2005 I've manged to find some dvds that teach the basics of bokken and samurai sword. Do you think i should purchase one? Would this be an effective way to learn the basics?
krzychicano Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 I would use it as a reference but you should really get taught by a live professional if you are serious about learning the katana. What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others. - Confucius
The Law Of The Fist Posted February 15, 2005 Author Posted February 15, 2005 Good news! My Aiki Jujitsu teacher is going to teach an outdoor iado class during the summer.I'll prolly get a video for some fundamentals now and then learn through him.
searcher Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 Good idea to learn from your instructor. It seems to save a lot of body parts. "let those who shed blood with me be forever known as my brother."
krzychicano Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 Yes very good idea glad to hear you will be learning from and instructor. Good luck on learning the katana. What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others. - Confucius
searcher Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Before you start training with a live blade go buy a good bokken or suburi-to. "let those who shed blood with me be forever known as my brother."
