Taku-Shimazu
I use a wooden home made one because I don't wanna swing a blade around my head when I don't really know what i'm doing. The cool summer breeze passes me by.

Andrew_Patton
word of advice? don't hit your head... But seriously, In Yamashita/Matayoshi Kobudo we have something similar it is called, okinawan single kama, and is only taught to the highest ranks of the system, some things are usually fudged around (lower than brown working sai, yellow belts with nunchaku) but not when dealing with anything kama related, or blade related for that matter, I'd probably replace that wooden kama with a wood kama that has a rubber blade, and train safely. If you have anymore questions PM me, I may be able to help out a bit more
Shorin Ryuu
Hey Andrew_Patton, who is your instructor? I noticed you did Kobayashi as well. Edit: I noticed you use the Matayoshi Kobudo system. Does that mean your instructor is Tadashi Yamashita or you trace your lineage that way? Edit2: I'm dumb and didn't see the "Yamashita" further down in your profile...just forget I ever asked. yamesu
i use a kusari-fundo sometimes to mock kusari-gama, but im way too lame to swing a live-freekin-kama around my head on a chain...................ive only ever seen one proper form for kusari-gama, done with real-kama, and it was done by an ~30yr old woman, one of the BEST forms ive ever seen. if you are ever presented the chance, learn to use kyoketsu shoge. Taku-Shimazu
Interesting replies, but do you have any move that you could E-teach me? I also like to use a homemade Tetsubishi, you know the things used to skewer people like on mortal kombat, and also to entangle weapons. Anyone have any other homemade weapons they like to use, maybe have any of you invented any weapons? The cool summer breeze passes me by.
Shorin Ryuu
E-gads. I find E-teaching to be somewhat dangerous, especially when dealing with weapons. I'm sure most people really haven't "invented" weapons of a simple nature recently (i.e., Not saying that the Southern Chinese School of Ironing Board First isn't great, but that most "invented" weapons don't have too many new weapons principles). Most of these are usually "improvised" weapons instead. Martial Arts Blog:http://bujutsublogger.blogspot.com/

Andrew_Patton
I agree with shorin ryu in the fact that e-teaching isn't all that great of an idea. Primarily for beginners and anyone that doesn't have a grasp of the basics of a weapon. Weapon training isn't something to be fooled around with, I've seen many injuries with kama in the past that were from adult blackbelts, and I'm not talking new black belts, yondan and above are what I'm talking about, the moment you start getting over confident is when things get the most dangerous
Taku-Shimazu
No i'm fine with it, I can use it well and have discovered many techniques. but I was just wondering if you knew any moves that you could tell me? As far as injuries go I've only hit myself a couple of times whilst 'learning' a couple of new moves. The cool summer breeze passes me by.
