Oddshaped people and possibly non-custom Gi's

I am considering buying a new heavyweight gi. A little background here is that I was training with my sensei untile I was about 13 then he moved, and I continued practice on my own. Now, I have the opportunity to train with him and actually other instructors again so I need new uniforms since I am now 18. I bought a heavyweight Century gi in size 5 and I had to hem up the pants a huge amount. I have a bit of a problem because I am around 5'7 1/2", however I have a 42" chest, broad shoulders, etc. I also have a 32" waist, but rather large quads (26" around) and calves (18.5" around) with only a 35-36" outer pant measurement. As you can see this is a problem, size four pants fit correctly lengthwise, but are a little tight. Size five pants are roomy enough, but are a bit long. I think my problem is wearing Century gi's. I was looking into a size 4 1/2 in Pro Force or Pine Tree since they actually offer half sizes. I was also thinking of getting a traditional cut Satori Gi in size 4 1/2 or 5. The Satori gi would come in the form of a gift from my parents since my birthday is tomorrow. Anyone that has experience with Satori gi's is welcome to help me out. Any comments on IronMan Gi's or the like is welcome as well. I know that I want a heavyweight gi 12oz-15oz. Thank you for your help.

I have a custom made from https://www.satori-gi.com . I sent in my measurements and they took it from there . In terms of the sizing, the jacket is like a 5 while the pants a 4 obviously with the correct waist size. The waist on my pants don't bunch up in the back like alot of my other store bought uniforms. I prefer not having the bunched up waist. The thighs are plenty roomy, and I do not have to continually pull up the pant legs when kicking or say being a horse stance. As for the jacket, there is extra room in the arm-pit area for more freedom of movement, which in turn allows you to raise your arms up without the jacket raising out over your belt .

 

By the way, go to the custom made uniform post, and look at the link for the Meijin uniforms that I threw up. There uniforms are nice, and you can mix and match for a proper fit .

after looking around I ordered a gi from Satori. It should be here in a couple of weeks.

I don't fit the tradtional size charts either... i'm about 5'7 and 200lbs. So... I have a size 6 Shureido that I got hemmed. Don't be afraid to hem them... lol Just ask around for a good tailor who does gi's. And tell the tailor exactly what you want. My pant leg bottoms are hemmed with 9 rows of stitching which is great. We're not all made the same

I'm only 5'2" tall, but have long legs in proportion to the length of my arms. So, my gi pants generally fit OK in the legs, but the jacket is usually miles to long in the sleeves.

I never really liked hemming up things. I just never really thought it looked right. I found that I fit almost perfectly in a traditional cut size 4 1/2. I am muscularly built, so although I weight 190 ish I look and have proportions of someone who weighs about 165. I am lucky to be just a shade above 5'8" which means that a 4 1/2 won't be too long, but a 5 will. So no more size 5's.

My first proforce uniform (size 4) fit perfect (still does). But I can't find a TKD style uniform that fits right either. The shirts generally fit, but the pants are always too big. I have a low waist, so I have to roll up the waist so the waist band is low enough, and the pant legs don't drag on the floor.

I don't have a TKD uniform, but the coach has been encouraging me to buy one. How do those fit compared to a regular karate gi?

Generally speaking, most TKD uniforms are a Poly/Cotton blend with a V-neck style pull over jacket, and the pants almost always come with an elastic waist. In my opinion, I think they are roomier than most karate uniforms.

MY TSD uniform was the karate style gi. It fit great. But like Pacificshore said, the TKD uniforms are a bit different. They are roomier, but just too big length-wise (the bottoms, for me anyways).
