one big difference would be vertical punch of Isshin ryu compare to corkscrew punch of other karate schools, Isshin ryu is more okinawan compare to Jap. stayles like Shotokan which means the old way. kyukoshin does full contact , two others go with more control. Isshin ryu has kata and elements of Goju ryu compare to shotokan which comes from shorin ryu. they all good as far as finding school later when you move it's like this

1- shotokan

2-kyukoshin

3-Isshin ryu

Isshin-Ryu's katas come from both Shorin-Ryu and Goju-Ryu. Shotokan came from the Funakoshi family of you gussed it Okinawa. Shuri, Okinawa to be exact. Shotakan is a combination of the Okinawan arts, much like Isshin-ryu. Goju-Ryu Karate was developed from Naha-Te and is closest to Chinese martial arts. Shorin-Ryu came from Tomeri-Te and Shuri-Te.

He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.

"Move as swift as a wind, stay as silent as forest, attack as fierce as fire, undefeatable defense like a mountain."

Tatsuo Shimabuku (the founder of Isshin-ryu ( one heart style )) was a student of Chotoku Kyan who tought him Shobayashi Shorin-ryu and Chojun Miyagi founder of Goju-ryu. So the style incorporates kata from both styles: Seisan, Seiunchin, Naihanchi, Wansu, Chinto, Sanchin, Kusanku and Sunsu (created by Shimabuku).

Shotokan follows the teachings of Gichin Funakoshi who had two teachers; Azato and Itosu. Both did Shorin-ryu karate.

Kyokushinkai is karate of Masutatsu Oyama who studied under Gichin Funakoshi and Gogen "The Cat" Yamaguchi who was a student of Chojun Miyagi. So again this one is a mixture of Shorin-ryu and Goju-ryu.

The kata are the same (to the ones in Shorin or Goju) but tought in a different approach because every teacher finds something else inside of them that he likes and finds usefull.
