1kickKO
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Lately I have been seeing in black belt mag and all over the itnernet these types of ads, I recently saw one that said "Learn in 5, teach in 10!". Pathetic..there is no way you can become an instructor through learning by a week long video program. What are your takes on this?
pressureguy
Read this taken from https://www.adrianroman.com : ---------------------------------------- "What In the Program? I will send you video tapes of Yellow Belt thru 1st Degree Black Belt, and written manuals for each belt level. You will receive a complementary workout t-shirt, your Black Belt and of course your 1st degree Black Belt diploma. I do this for three reason. (1) I'm a full blood Choctaw Indian and I use my Native honor system that you will complete the distance learning program and become the best possible Black Belt you can be. (2) God forbid something happen to me, I would not have wanted you to spend this kind of money and not receive your certification. (3) Most do not live in a city and state where you have access to an instructor or school that teaches a proven sophisticated system Like American Kenpo or Red Warrior." -------------------------------------- Right now he has the first degree black belt on sale for $795 dollars in 2 different styles. senna_trem
These are the kind of people that are all talk when it comes to karate. But to they know a large selection of moves? No. Do they know the bunkai to whatever katas they are being taught? No. They suck, we rock. End of story. 1kickKO
Haha good point. Something I might throw i here are those "learn how to kill somebody in a split-second" tapes. Don't you guys think somebody could seriously get hurt or hurt somebody else without knowing the proper ways to do these techniques? And when to do them? I think there should be some serious law-suits against these people.
isshinryu5toforever
they are simply catering to the market they are in. A lazy populace that wants results immediately. Who here has seen the commercial for some thing, where the guy steps on the scale sees his weight, run around the room once, and then goes back and is shocked when he doesn't lose weight. There are the people that they are dealing this crap to. The same people that use bowflexes for coat racks and throw ab-doers into the closet. If they want to eat this crap up too, why not let them? Kicks
Where are these Insta-Black belts when it comes to tournaments? I'd love to test their skills. (I know, they don't compete, they just kill, but it was a funny thought to me.) when you create the world's largest trailer park, you're going to have tornadoes
gheinisch
Our Hanshi tells us to give him three business days and 5 bucks and he'll get us a black belt. But if we really want to be a black belt it will take years of hard training and then a black belt just represents you starting an all new level of training. Books and videos are a nice compliment but can't replace getting out there and going at it.
