Emei89 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Doea anyone here know chi gung breathing and any iron body? (i.e. iron fist, iron leg, etc...) "You cannot mean what you say unless you say what you mean" --me
Hudson Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Yes, I do. The first few sets we train are at some level qigong, regulating breath and muscle tension etc; etc;, the third set is very much like the Lohan Qigong. We also practice iron body, iron arm, and iron leg, but they're much more practice then they are technique. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
Emei89 Posted January 24, 2005 Author Posted January 24, 2005 Thats awesome. What MA do you study? "You cannot mean what you say unless you say what you mean" --me
Master Jules Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Yes. Chi Gung is a very big part of Okinawan Goju Ryu, since it decends from Chinese systems. We also have various techniques to cultivate the iron shirt, forearms, hands and fingers as well. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
thebarkingdog Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 I don't know alot about it, but we do some in the Tai-Chi and Yue-Chuan Kung Fu classes. We did some iron shirt yesterday, there are so many different aspects and styles of Qigung that we only have a little incorporated in the classes. In the future we will have just a class dedicated to Qigung, it was supossed to start in Jan. but i think the date has been pushed back to March. (in MI)
sAtelitte Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 We do mostly iron hand and arms exercises. Things like hitting a sandbag a couple of hundred times (with back of the hand, knife hand, finger tips, etc), push-ups on knuckles, several sparring exercises where you hit your opponents forearm with yours again and again,etc... From your other post i get you practice northern shaolin, with what kind of iron body techniques do they torture you with? https://www.shaolin.be
Hudson Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I study a style of Kung Fu that isn't too popular, but you could probably find it likened to a Shaolin style with emphasis on dragon philosophy in everything we do (Movement, strategy) The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
dtstiachi Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 check out Zhan Zhuang training, it is a Chi Kung excersize that will help one strengthen the inner mind and Body. it is also called stand on stake methods or posting. "The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with but a single step."
David Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Zhan Zhuang is cool - I do that when I need a bowel movement NOW . I do some t'ai chi / qigong coupled with a little yoga for a general feel-good practise. The kung fu forms all begin with iron body qigongs. The first form is solely for that (think Karate sanchin) and puts amazing tension in the fingers and arms to develop them. Love it all! Rgds, David ** Censor-O-Meter: 9 **
