Yabyahoo Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Hm, don't really know what I prefer, but I'm really interested! I would really like to know the art of throwing shuriken, but I can't find anything... Run, don't walk....Tae-Kwon-Do Pre-Black BeltAssistant Instructor
tommarker Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 At the risk of sounding like an old man (like Shorinryu Sensei ) Could we please be a little more mature in our weapon discussions? People read stuff like this and think that anyone who studies weaponry must be somehow unhinged. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Pacificshore Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Besides, anybody that throws their weapon at an opponent is desperate and not to smart. By throwing it, you've lost your weapon and given up control of it. Chances of hitting someone with either in a fight is slim at best, and in the case of the shuriken, what's to prevent a person from taking the shuriken out of his chest when you hit him with it, and throwing it back at YOU? Not as likely with a knife.Depends on how many you are carrying and can spare by throwing them at the bad guy/gal ......heck if you do run out better start grabbing things around you to throw at 'em Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
PrideampPoise Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Is the original question just which do you prefer for throwing? I'm not trained in throwing either, but do have some training in knife fighting, so of course I'll 'stick' with my knife. I know that when using a knife its extremely important to have a very sharp knife. If you do, you can penetrate the non-bone areas pretty easily. I would assume its even more important if you are throwing knives/stars.
CloudDragon Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 What I havent seen yet is the issue of clothing, if someone is wearing a thin leather jacket, penetration is exponentially difficult when compared to a person without a shirt. Plus, most training targets are hard and do not take into account the pliability of skin and muscle, a natural defense. As far as throwing something, I would pick a baseball, better transferrence of energy, and easier to get the desired effect. In the confines of the question, I would choose a knife, because the greater weight would impart more energy. Remember, shuriken were designed to be a distraction, something to engage the enemy until you could draw a sword, or make your escape. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
Davison Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 I would prefer throwing a knife. shuriken in the old days in Japan were usually poison tipped. The idea was not to assume that it would kill their opponent but to puncture the skin and cause disease from the poison. In that time in life, battles probly took place days away from any kind of immediate medical treatment and by the time the person reached such place, an fatal infection was already taking place. Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them
