Georgi Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 While I respect Bruce Lee's achievements in the martial arts, I think that his physical prowess and Jeet Kune Do as a martial art are both made up to be more than they were. Of course, that is simply my personal opinion.
Chaz Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I agree with this, In my personal opinion I think there was more Bruce Lee to JKD than there is in the concept/art itself...I think Bruce was just amazing because he was! He probably would have been better in most arts if he would of picked one...Catch my drift? More Bruce than JKD... Cmon Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Wasn't he trying to press the idea that just because kickboxing and Wing Chun were his first focuses that later formed his ultimate way of fighting, doesn't mean it will be yours? Don't you have to find your own way? Yes you have to find your own way. Every martial artist will have to find their own way. If someone tries their hand at judo and is not good at it they will move on try something different. Bruce Lee was a great mover, fighter and martial artist, whether he was the best is debatable. He selected the parts of many martial arts that worked best for him and throwing aside all those bits that do not work for him. I am personally learning JKD and i think that i am being taught all the techniques that a great fighter etc thought worked best. Granted not everything i learn i will be able to execute with ease, but the bits i can execute perfectly and with ease i will use. But what i do execute still comes under the tree of JKD. I wouldn't call this "my" JKD because it is still what Bruce Lee had chosen to be effective. I hope this makes sense.
Rank7 Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 boxing is included in jkd...\\\ yes. very true but i would like you to go to a boxing gym and tell them you can throw a punch like these people can. from experience you will see a difference . flow like water. AnonymousOne Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 To say Bruce Lee was the best martial artist is not accurate. No one knows who the best is/was. It would take a fight to the death to prove that and also having fought every known martial artist. I have no doubt Bruce was extremely skilled and I respect him. He never fought in any contests, he only trained and taught a selected few. Yes his concepts were radical in its time, but then again many masters were. To prove conclusively "he was the best" is an impossible task. 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Warriors are action takers and not action fakers.
