pineapple Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 BJJ has hundreds of techniques and combinations but I want to concentrate on the ones that are most effective for the street. OK, all of you BJJ practitioners out there. I have a question for you. If you had to limit yourself to just 5 techniques or combos to practice for the street, which ones would they be? What works works
VinnieDaChin Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 the guard, the mount, cross-side (sidemount), then ankle locks and wrist locks. (id assume armbars and chokes are all naturally part of the mount or guard or whatever.)
Edgard Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 (edited) Well... five techiniques? I dunno some of the names in english but I'm gonna try to say and explain them. The mount- This is great, I mean, All your oponent can do is throw punches at you, but by doing that you can easily perform an arm lock The arm lock - Well, you can perform it when he got his back at you, when you're mounted or even when his standing (never heard of the flying armlock before?) "Homoplata" - A lock sharing the name of the bone in our back, it consists of(don't know any better way to explain it in english) holding you oponents shoulder and twisiting his arm backwards "Ezekiel" - A chocke(is that the right spelling?) that can be performed in any position, you put let's say for this example your standing in face to face to your oponent, your left arm around your oponent's neck so that your left arm's hand will be in your right, then, you right arm's hand must grab your left arm (that is in your left) with the palm facing up now twist you right hand so that your palm is now facing down and you little finger is near you oponents neck. Now a part of your right hand will be touching you foe's adam apple now, pull your right against(yes this will hurt), and your left arm is suposed to stop your oponent's head... err this means that while your right arm makes it moves it into a direction, your left one holds it in the same place, so you kind crush his neck. "Americana" - Well it's another kind of lock using your oponents arm, kinda hard to explain and it's usable in most positions Note:Sorry for the Bad grammar spelling and the horrid explanations, english is not my mother language, but I try my best. Edit:English is not my mother english? how could I miss that. Edited January 23, 2005 by Edgard
pineapple Posted January 23, 2005 Author Posted January 23, 2005 Great reply, Edgard! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. What works works
TJS Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Gaurd sweep mount escape double leg takedown attacks from knee on belly Rear naked choke master those 5 and you will have a nice set of grappling "tools" for the street.
pineapple Posted January 25, 2005 Author Posted January 25, 2005 TJS, What type of mount escape would you use on the street??? What works works
TJS Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Buck and roll- Make sure they are as low down on your hips as possible.Trap one leg with your foot and trap the same side arm. Bridge your hips up explosivly and turn and roll them over.
pineapple Posted January 25, 2005 Author Posted January 25, 2005 TJS, What kind of guard sweep would you use? What works works
1kickKO Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 My pesonal favorite is just a regular armbar between the legs(juji gatame) because this is my strongest move, I've got powerful legs so when somebody gets on top of me, if I can't buck 'em, you know I'm goin' for that arm.
roy291 Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 1.) The Guard (very Important, I finish a lot from the Guard) 2.) The Mount (Superior to the guard IMO, equally Important) 3.) any kind of takedown (gotta get em to the ground.) 4.) Arm Bar 5.) Chokes These are essential, But you must execute these moves with confidence and practice a lot. The ground is my ocean, I am a shark and you can't swim.
