Lazy Scholar Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Can I ask a good majority of those here to state their JKD lineage, because there are a lot of people here that make claims about JKD that have no backing behind them but their own opinions about something they've never experienced. I really want to discern those that actually train in the ART of JKD from those that just read the 14.95 books you get from borders. Mine: Lee ---> Inosanto --> Tim Tackett / Bob Bremer --> My friend who shall be nameless. ; I also have: Lee ---> Ted Wong --> MS --> DP. you scythe with it!!!!!!
Cmon Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Mine: Lee ---> inosanto ---> Mel corrigan ---> myself. even if i haven't made a comment in this thread yet.
Cmon Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Ive lost track of what we are actually discussing soemone care to fill me in?
Lazy Scholar Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Thanks. That's fine, neither have I but I get tired (i knowi should ignore) of those arm chair JKD'ers. you scythe with it!!!!!!
Lazy Scholar Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 don't know. but i just saw a lot of the crap being posted by the armchair dudes. I'll try and read through all of it though as much as it pains me :\. you scythe with it!!!!!!
Lazy Scholar Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Okay i took issue with the posts from the three posters before me. It started with a guy trying to set the record straight as to what JKD is and what it isn't. you scythe with it!!!!!!
Venrix Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Since the question was (althought somewhat badly put): "What's all the controversy with JKD?", I don't really see how a peeing contest of lineage helps. That said, it would be nice to hear from some practising JKD guy's whether my assessment of the problem is accurate? I am more than willing to change my opinion if a counter-argument clearly demonstrates that this is the right thing to do... -V- More than 200 pictures of Kyokushin technique. Lazy Scholar Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 I brought up the issue of lineage because it seems that some of the points made by some posters were way out there. Well i'll re evaluate your points and go from there. you scythe with it!!!!!!
Cmon Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Well the way i see JKd is, Jeet Kune Do is basically all the parts of martial arts BL studied that worked best for him. He name it Jeet Kune Do "Way of the intercepting fist". When i take classes in JKD i am taught what BL thought worked best for him. So i am learning what a great martial artist thought worked best for HIM. I then can only pick out the bits of JKD which work for me and discard the rest like he did. I wouldn't consider this to be MY JKD as it is still what BL had chosen.
Lazy Scholar Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 JKD to me, is an art comprised of philosophy, principles, and tools that express the former. JKD can be said to be fencing without the sword, and throughout my experience in JKD, nothing could be further from the truth. The intrigue that lies in JKD is that how the principles, philosophy and tools all complement each other well. you scythe with it!!!!!!
