Sauzin
Just like Elektra's Sais. KararteKa, Don't you think you were a little harsh with the stop watching Daredevil and Elektra thing. To comic book fans opinion, it's the best thing ever created by man. Please keep your incorrect thoughts to yourself. To all who dissagree with Assassin, Everyone has different uses for the sai and everyone studys the sai for a different reason. If Assassin wishes to turn the shaft into a blade then that is again a personal preference. He didn't ask whether he should or not he asked you whether shureido were hollow or not. so in future don't critisize his reason, just answer the question. if you can't handle that then don't reply. I'll give you the fact that he didn't ask whether he should or should not. But then again people often get more then they ask for in both this forum and life. If my answers had to be like Burger King meals and they were all custom order "have it your way" specials then I don't think I would be here. "Yes I would like my answer without lettuce or tomato and could you please not mention that what I am asking will ruin a masterfully crafted, fully functional weapon." No, sorry that's not how that works. He asked a question and I found more to answer in the context of his question rather then specifically what he was asking for. I took a bigger picture perspective and decided to answer. And I think he and many others including myself would be missing a lot of value if things couldn't be done this way. When I ask a question I don't always know the subject well enough to know if I'm even asking the right question. People should be allowed expound on other people's questions for this reason. It is in everyone's best interest. If people have a problem with this then they should ignore the replies they don't want and find what they need. But they should at least have the option. Now back to the question. You will have a difficult time finding a production sai that isn't hollow, in fact I've never seen one. Still if you want something that looks like an Electra sai then why not look into replica weapons. I'm sure there are even people out there who are making these weapons somewhat functional especially after a big movie like Electra comes out. Check out e-bay or other replica blade sites. If they don't have what you are looking for call them up and ask. You might be surprised as to what they can offer. Further more I wouldn't call spear heading the tip of the rod a "blade". I would suggest telling them you would like the tip sharpened on both the tip and the sides like a spear head. This would still be best used for piercing. I still hold that doing this to a Shuriedo sai would be the most expensive way you could go about doing what you want to do. And the functionality of the weapon would be reduced. If you want to be proud to hang an authentic pair of sai then don't modify them so that they aren't authentic. If your friends don't think they are cool, you can show them by demonstrating on cardboard or foam exactly how effective authentic weapons are, assuming you've been trained in their proper use of course. The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it. Assassin_with_sais
Well, the reason that I want to go with the Shuriedo sai was for two things: 1. Shuriedo makes a stainless steal sai that could always be polished again to be shiny, unlike chrome plated ones. 2. I was reading somewhere where these people were talking about the thousands of dollars they they spent to have their swords made Anymore ideas of what I should do if people don't want me to "ruin" a Shuriedo??? Shorin Ryuu
Carbone sai, which I've recently concluded are better-balanced than Shureido sai (at least for me) have a tip at the end of the main shaft. It's not quite a sharp point, but it is a point (you don't need that much force to penetrate with them). On the handle side of it, the tsuka also ends in a point (tsuka gashira, or whatever the heck it is called...I'm too lazy to look it up and I don't remember), which really facilitates the strike in the reverse grip. http://www.weaponsconnection.com/page1.htm Oh dear, it seems I've become a walking, talking Weapons Connection advertisement since I've received my pair of sai. On the downside, they were about three hundred dollars... Martial Arts Blog:http://bujutsublogger.blogspot.com/
Assassin_with_sais
I meant about sharpening sais to be like Elektra's.....but yes, I have heard VERY good things about those sai!
Kill Bill960
You think they would make a replica of the Elektra sais. Considering they have made replicas for all of the lord of the rings movies. inc: bows, arrows, swords, daggers. Not to mention the Blade and killbill movies. By the way sorry for being blunt in my last reply. It's just, way to often i see the same thing happen. It's just a guy/girl who badly wants to get an answer and everyone just searches to find a way to prevent them from getting the infomation they want. I know everyone has an oppinion but you shouldn't be so: my opinion is the only correct one, and you have to go by it! : I dunno whether you actually intend that, but thats what comes across to me. Her sais are so kool and flashy. They are one of the nicest weapons i've seen. And yeh yeh i know it dosen't matter bout the apperence, but they are kool!!! Shorin Ryuu
I'm not sure if I want to see this Elektra movie...It's kind of like watching Behind Enemy Lines after going through survival training. Sure it's Hollywood, but if you're going to have a character who loves to use the sai, she should know how to use them. Again, I haven't seen it...Anyone who has a fair working knowledge of the sai have any comments on the realistic nature of her usage (apart from the obvious action movie exaggerations)? harleyt26
I think Killbill960 must have this confused with a comic book or movie forum. If he was to read at the top of the page he would find that this is not that type of forum. However if he would happen to have a question or input on a kobudo technique or weapon he might get the response he is looking for.I do not have any knowledge of movie props or "kool or flashy things".I am very sorry if this comes across as harsh,uh no I am not.Now on to a kobudo subject, one of my training partners just received his Agena sai, sweet very sweet. His hand is smaller than mine but the feel and quality of the weapon can not be compared to any other including Shureido.I will be ordering mine soon.
