I am sorry, I cannot currently answer that but I will find out.

Bladed?!? What exactly do you mean by bladed?

The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.

Ok first of all... It's "sai" not "sais" that is incorrect grammar because sai is already plural. Second, It would be idiotic to "blade" a pair of sai...What do you think is going to happen when you retract them? (hint: you will cut your arm) Third, get some martial arts instruction before buying a weapon you know nothing about. And lastly....Stop watching DareDevil and Elektra...They are crappy movies with crappy martial art sequences, and you shouldn't be inspired by them

I've already used pointed sai and they're nothing. Second of all, I do know how to use a sai and I'm actually quite proficient with them. Third of all, I do know about sais. The reason that I asked if the Shureido was solid is because I've run into a few brands that are hollow. Also, I never said that the blades would be sharp, they won't, they'll be rounded. The reason that I want them bladed is for the effect. While I know how to use the sai I also like the showy side of them.

You see I'm still not getting you on the whole "bladed" thing. Are you saying that you want to make them pointed? Are you saying that you want to sharpen the sides? Are you saying you want to pound the rod flat and turn it into a blade? In terms of weapons the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a blade as:

"3 a : the cutting part of an implement"

Sai don't cut. You can pierce but you cannot cut with a sai. You can cut with a dagger. You might even be able to pound a sai into a dagger (though if it is properly tempered I doubt it). But you can't cut with a sai. The sai has no blade.

Now you say you are proficient with sai. Then you should know this. You should also know that a sai is primarily a striking weapon. It is made to hit people with the end of the metal rod. Doing so allows you to put bullet size wholes in your target and is very effective. You should also know that piercing flesh with a blunt tip is much faster, stronger, and releases easier then stabbing with a point. You would also likely know that the Shureido sai are perfectly balanced and any modification should not be made lightly.

Here's a suggestion. If you want an authentic pair of sai then buy a pair of Shureido's. If you want a dagger replica then buy a dagger replica. But why would you waist a lot of money on a authentic weapon then ruin it by pounding it or sharpening the point only to put the atrocity on display. If you are a metal worker then buy yourself a rod and work/weld it into the desired shape yourself. But don't take an authentic work of art and basterdize it by removing the beauty and purpose of its design. Please start with something that doesn't already have these attributes and add your own beauty and purpose to it.

The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.

Okay, if people here don't want me to blade a Shureido sai because if will ruin the balance of it then can someone her please tell me a brand of sai that is not so perfectly balanced but at the same time is not pot metal and not solid?

Sauzin,

As for the blading thing, I want to grind off the edges of the main blade to give them a diamond shape that is more like a blade.

Just like Elektra's Sais.

KararteKa,

Don't you think you were a little harsh with the stop watching Daredevil and Elektra thing. To comic book fans opinion, it's the best thing ever created by man. Please keep your incorrect thoughts to yourself.

To all who dissagree with Assassin,

Everyone has different uses for the sai and everyone studys the sai for a different reason. If Assassin wishes to turn the shaft into a blade then that is again a personal preference. He didn't ask whether he should or not he asked you whether shureido were hollow or not. so in future don't critisize his reason, just answer the question. if you can't handle that then don't reply.

I have never seen electras sai but if they are going to be modeled after them then i suggest you find a site that sells movie props and buy a recreation of them there.
