tufrthanu Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 As far as I know NASKA rules are how traditional TKD spars. They used the same rules as karate for a long time until the WTF and ITF. Alot of TKD schools still do. Long Live the Fighters!
KwicKixJ1 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 wasn't talking about the rules. was talking about how they were fighting. almost as if they were scared to make any contact. and... machine gun kicks. dunno, looked too light and care free in my opinion. just like naska.
Sam Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 traditional tkd? thought that was ITF sort of... Just about to watch the video but my opinion bout the punchin was it probably had more to do with the fighter's preference than ITF style although there usually is more kicking, hand techniques get used alot... depends on the fighter (or free / point stop sparring). ITF sparring is that - sport - so its not heavy contact its point score, hence the light contact (you are deducted points for heavy contact). In this style the "machine gun" kick as you put it is ideal as although it lacks real power to cause damage it can easily halt the approach of your opponent and creates a good guard against your body (since sweeps are illegal also).... i agree its completely unrealistic in any other situation but it is just a technique adapted for sparring as are many.... any way im blabbing on loads so ill be quiet now.
KwicKixJ1 Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 thanks for being constructive. its rare in message boards these days. i didn't know itf had legal sweeps. like, boot checks? or real take down sweeps? Y so many kicks then if sweeps r legal?
Bull Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Wow! no head protection or chest gear! that mustve hurt
Ottman Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Great video. I'm technically a WTF guy (if you really want to divide the art up like that) but we do every type of sparring, including freestyle at my school, and despite unrealistic rules, ITF (or point) sparring and WTF (or Olympic) sparring are still tons of fun. I've said it before, and I'll say it again though: what's with them not keeping their hands up? That's why the first guy got knocked out. Wasn't protecting his head. superfighter Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 i could say the say the same for allot of WTF guys to
searcher Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Superfighter and Ottman both have good points. I also see alot of WTF guys with their hands down(no offense intended). Ottman is right on them having their hands down. I have found that this is a bad by-product of point or "tag" sparring. There is no real threat of getting knocked out in a light contact match or at least there is not supposed to be. So fighters tend to not guard their heads. Every person on this and any other forum can learn a hard lesson from this video. "let those who shed blood with me be forever known as my brother."
Ottman Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 i could say the say the same for allot of WTF guys to Absolutely. WTF guys are just as guilty as having their hands down in sparring. Point in case: The Olympics. Tae Kwon Do - 3rd Dan, InstructorBrazilian Ju Jitsu - Purple Belt, Level 1 Instructor
